Several suggestions to further improve Bungie.net.

1.) Clearify the use of the Many Forums- There should not be so many threads in the wrong spots, and the only way I can see to improve that is to clearify what goes in each one. Or at least don't make The Underground so vague. When someone sees "Anything and Everything Bungie" they would tend to think Halo is bungie so this is the right place.

2.) Search engine- There are to many threads asking the same question or saying the same thing. I've been told it is Coming Soon™ but soon can't come soon enough.

3.) Update the rules- There is a new problem afoot involving "Cloning", This is when identical threads are posted numerous times. It is like Bumping but worse, and there is nothing in the rules against it and so I see it continuing.

4.) Spell Checker- Not everybody is perfect, and typos do occur. I know the rules say that everything should be typed in a Word program first, but not everyone does it. (I for one do not have Word on this computer)

5.) More moderators- No I'm not asking I be one, but around 6:00 to 6:30 is rush hour on the forums, and with that are numerous threads involving but not limted to:
•Bumping
•Cloning
•Spaming
•Flaming
•Threads in the wrong spot
•Hateful threads

Now I know the current Mods are working hard for next to nothing, and not to say they are doing a bad job but dispite popular believe they cannot see everything going on and can only do one thing at a time. So Having more Mods who are online around 6:00 to 8:00 would be swell.

I agree with you on most accounts, I like the spell checker, some people's typing is so horrid it looks like anchient Shang(unreadable, chinese old writing piece of poo). for example:

"mah i luv tat brraffle i shold hv a smiaumic n hal 3 thgh."

I remeber that from a old thread a while back. Forum clarifacation and the search is good as well(by the way, why i out, java scris it taking 4 months just to bring that to release, javascript error?). More moderators, meh, we'll have to wait until Bungie's new project(like Halo 2, hundreds will join, requiring more baby sitting), but only until then, the spam filter is doing fine. Your repeated posts thing is already in affect, it is called cross posting. Again with new moderators, we don't need one, dmbfan and toast are on most often.

I agree. We need more clairification here, new guys shouldn't be expected to have to read the rules over and over to post, it's just not going to happen. You need to be able to point them in the right direction from the start with more detailed explinations of the forums.

2.) Search engine- There are to many threads asking the same question or saying the same thing. I've been told it is Coming Soon™ but soon can't come soon enough.

Hey, no disagreement there.

3.) Update the rules- There is a new problem afoot involving "Cloning", This is when identical threads are posted numerous times. It is like Bumping but worse, and there is nothing in the rules against it and so I see it continuing.

Even if they did change this, you aren't going to stop the cloning entirely. Despite what everybody seems to beleive, more moderators isn't going to solve this, it's going to be a persistant problem as long as Halo is popular. Just notify a moderator, and continue.

4.) Spell Checker- Not everybody is perfect, and typos do occur. I know the rules say that everything should be typed in a Word program first, but not everyone does it. (I for one do not have Word on this computer)

This would be nice, but you don't really need it that much. If you want this feature, I suggest you go a Google search for a nifty little program called "iespell".

5.) More moderators- No I'm not asking I be one, but around 6:00 to 6:30 is rush hour on the forums, and with that are numerous threads involving but not limted to:

Nah. As I said above, no matter hor many mods you have, you can't catch everything. The ones we have I beleive are doing a good enough job of keeping this place as cleen as possible.

Enlighten me on "cloning" threads.. isn't it the same thing as spam? Or just a double post? And the most updated version of the forum rules can be found here.
•The name "Cloning" was actually givin to it by Recon when I pointed him in the direction of an unnamed user who posted the exact same threads 3 times in two days all in the underground. I was told by the poster that
"he just wanted more people to see the idea",
I responded by telling him
"he need not repost it over and over as it looses interest, If people liked it they would respond and it would remain a point of interest. If not it would die as is the way of things"
that was followed up by him telling me to mind my own business and to leave him alone.
I complied and then blocked him.

A great (and free) spell checker is ieSpell. But a built in Bungie.net one would be quite a challenge to make. I'm sure it's on Achronos's to do list.
•I thank you (both of you) for that spell checker and will now use it.

Trust me when I say this, but more ninjas is not the answer. No matter how many we have, things will always slip through. A future Karma system will be able to deal with bad members instantly
•Your the mod so you know best when it comes to that matter, and I will be waiting in anticipation for the Karma system

Thank you.

Yes, if only there was a list at the top right of every forum window to give people a general description of what forum is for what.

Or perhaps a page with slightly more detailed descriptions.

Or perhaps stickies in forums whose range of topics could be confusing due to the description of the forum in question.

Or maybe someone should just write a post to describe what a number of the forums are for.

Indeed, but you may notice that out of all those it seems as if they repeat them selves
over
Discussions about anything and everything Bungie

and over
Discussions related to Bungie general

with only a few changes
Underground: Bungie General and Oldschool Games

untill only one remains..
THIS IS NOT A HALO BOARD

..the one that would clue anyone into the fact The Underground is not a Halo boared, and you must go out of your way to see it. Something most users do not do, which is why I asked that it be clearified in a place everyone goes before posting.

Remember it is not my problem if people go off posting in the wrong spots. I'm just trying to give some helpful advice, becuase when most people want to post something they don't follow the main rule, and that is they dont read the rules before posting! you can make all the threads you want but in the end you cannot force someone to go off and read through all the rules.
But this is where all users must go through, and this is the page I was refering to when I asked for forum clearifcation.

Stickies are not out of anyone's way to read. Even if you don't click the link, the fact that it says THIS IS NOT A HALO BOARD makes it loud and clear. Nor does it take a leap in logic to figure out that, if there's three forums that very clearly claim to be for Halo 2, then the other nine forums are for other topics.

The fact of the matter is that people who post in those forums don't particularly care. We could put flash animations with sirens and the forum's description flashing incessantly, and people will still mispost.

Wow, that would be awesome. *siren* "You have misposted!"*end siren*

Then perhaps you should get crackin on that sling shot and launch all those carless people from it, just a few miles nothing to big, just to knock some sence into them.

And just for my personal clearification so that I can sleep well at night,
I put Halo 1 FanFic in The Maw and it was moved to New Mombosa, is that right? Or did the person who moved it just not realize it was for Halo 1.

I'm pretty sure all Fan-Fic's related to Halo go in New Mombasa. I'm also pretty sure there's a stickie in New Mombasa just for Fan-Fics.
