Do Spartans get paid? Will they ever get discharged from the military an live a normal life?

I actually don't think there's any Spartan II's left in UNSC control after the war.

And if there is, Maria's life is most likely how the rest of the spartans would be.

Settle down, have a family, but if the UNSC needs you for something you'd do it.(Like armor testing.)

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

There probably aren't any Spartans left after Halo 3 (That the U.N.S.C knows of).

Now if there are any, they would definitely not be discharged. ONI wouldn't waste resources like that. Especially in Humanity's present state, completely war torn, probably under Martial law like conditions, and under constant threat from pre-Covenant forces. All Spartans and UNSC personnel would be taken full advantage of to keep the peace, and provide protection to remaining Human settlements and colonies.

Don't be too surprised.

The UNSC lost Reach yet they allowed Maria to stay out of the line of duty anyway.

Simple case of weak writing. Though it can be explained by Maria just refusing to fight for whatever reason. It's not like you could capture her and make her get back in the line of duty, and I wouldn't dare cross a Spartan by kidnapping the family and using them as leverage. That's just asking for problems.

Fahjad, Kirk, Rene, any Spartan who failed the augmentations. I believe FoR said there were a few who weren't deformed but the drugs did nothing.

Still no final show on the Halo Wars Spartans, hopefully a HW2 will solve that.

I am sure the surviving spartans, if and when they return to human space, will likely help resolve the remaining threat from the covenant and related splinter groups (Brute tribes running rampant, local warlords, etc) as well as human separatists taking advantage of the situation.

I am willing to bet once things start to settle down and they are not as needed, they will put the remaining Spartans in cryo sleep.

Also, chances are ONI will start making more Spartans the first chance they get.

Maria passed the augments. She retired, not washed out.

And the washouts such as Fahjad, Kirk, etc, all got treatment from Halsey. Rather than pursue a Class II she put funding into repair those that she broke. They all ended up going back into active duty.
