Prepare to drop.

Have Bungie told us whether the dead Spartans are Spartan-IIs or Spartan-IIIs? They appear to be the same height as S-IIIs, but I thought Noble Team were the only S-IIIs equipped with MJOLNIR armour.

Finding the love of my life, and moving house really screwed up my gaming orientated lifestyle.

There was another team that were equiped with Mjolnir armour (I forget the name). And no, I don't think Bungie has.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking on Halopedia, and found some references to Spartan-IIIs that were given separate training and equipment akin to the Spartan-IIs (such as Noble Team).

Whippin' 'nades since aught-2

Remember, games>books. Nowhere in any of the games does it mention that SIIIs don't wear mjolnir.

Also, if you check the armory, you won't find spi.

I heard they were just there for fun, but, there are, 7 of them! Dun dun duuuuun. They are S-3s by the way :D

I think there are 13, actually, with Noble Six becoming the 14th casualty.

Inside another dead body. It's the last place they'll look
A corpse within a corpse.
CORPSEPTION.
Win.

Nowhere in any of the games before were there S-III class SPARTANS.

Pilot helmet references SPI armour, anyway.

Which is a multiple of seven.

Anyway, drawing conclusions, I think that they were an alternate group of S-III's helping guard the PoA from ground forces.

Which brings the question - Did the other S-IIs know that the S-IIIs exist?

  • 11.15.2010 10:59 AM PDT

Bookswise, they find out eventually they exist, the ones that are alive atleast.

But because games>books, its safe to assume that they somehow have to. Jorge himself is a S-II. So he at least knew. Who is to say the others didn't themselves.

They are about the size of S-IIIs.

Also, I don't think there were any S-II teams that have not been accounted for in FS or those radio transmissions.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Possibly Gauntlet or Echo Team that Jun mentions at the end of New Alexandria.

11 Spartan IIs of Red Team, splinter Beta died when the UNSC Majestic fired Six MAC rounds to 3 Covenant Cruisers, while they engaged Covenant Armored Division.

My theory: 11 of the 13 Spartans found in the Lone Wolf level are part of Red Team splinter Beta.

The Site of the Lone Wolf Mission looks as if something heavy happened there; looks actually a bit like a crater, so it may as well be the site where Splinter Beta died.

Supporting this theory, I believe whe have no reasons at all to discard the fallen Spartans at this level as possible Spartan IIs. (aside from the fact that most S-IIs used fairly uniform Mjolnir Armor without any attachment).

But still, this theory only accounts 11 Spartans, we´re missing 2 Spartans.

They're just dead Spartan IIIs. I don't think they're canon to be honest, that's like saying this is canon.

This could work but at the same time, Spartan II had uniform armor. It stated in the books lots of times that they recognize through familiar gestures and the likes. But, its entirely possible. I would make sense.

Except that easter egg is hidden from pain view, whereas it's practically impossible to miss the Spartans.
