Are you sure you're not confusing the old AR's with the new one?

The Reach AR takes more marksman skill to use effectively than every automatic weapon combined. Burst firing is extremely hard if you want to have a firing rate fast enough to beat most non power weapons. The range, kill time, and accuracy will dramatically increase if you do it perfect.

The Reach AR is the worst one for spraying, but hands down the best one in burst firing. The difference in effectiveness and difficulty to use is huge. Pacing is hard and extremely rewarding, while full auto is easy and much less effective.

It's true that it requires skill now.

But there is no reward for being skilled with it, as it deals miniscule damage.

Right now, it's harder to use, AND weaker.

Those two aspects of a weapon (skill requirement and weapon effectivness) should not be proportionate.

Meaning- the greater the skill requirement, the more effective it should be.

That was my idea as well :D I also liked the Halo 3 AR the most.

But, since the melee system won't get changed, this is a good alternative.

.... That works for all weapons, duh.

Fact is, that it is inferior to most weapons, even within it's intended range.

Bungie have stated that the weapons roles are defined alot by range.

Does that mean that the AR has no role in the sandbox? With this change, it will have it.

Well supposedly from what i heard about the TU in February (i can't say where i read this or found it. It is from a creditable source though who has leaked stuff before.) they are buffing/changing some weapons and there properties/changing some things with AA's as well. Supposedly they are also changing arena. I won't say anymore use google to find it. I don't feel like being banned.

I personally think that the AR SHOULD dominate the DMR at close range.

Long range = AR<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ;<DMR
Mid range = AR<DMR
Close range = AR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ;DMR

The halo 3 assault rifle was probably my most used weapon in the game. In reach I never use it and always swap it out for a dmr or a pistol. If I had a dmr I would NEVER get killed by a player with an assault rifle unless I was screwing around. It is useless compared to the other weapons in the game. And it's a freaking ASSAULT RIFLE it should be wayyy more powerful.

Mid range = AR=DMR
Close range = AR>DMR

Maybe for a skilled AR user ( like you and me ;) )
they should be equal if you 2burst fire like you should.

Improving the rate of fire would give it a chance against the DMR and the NR in close range.
Making it a 16-17 instead of a 18-20 wouldn't change that much for spammer, but good player will probably be able to effectively fight in medium range with it.

I support the 16 round kill. I also believe that it deserves more ammo like in the linked thread. Maybe not 60 rounds, but it should have more.

kinda hilarious how the primary weapon spawn for LOTS of gametypes is straight up TERRIBLE (as in it literally does nothing at every range)


Just because you fail to effectively use the AR doesn't mean it sucks. Statistically, pacing the AR kills faster than the DMR and needle rifle, and it's effective up to the length of 4 grid spaces or 4 warthogs.


Not really, I tried it with my brother and the DMR would win many time. The NR however, won less than half of the tests.

Which would be okay.... if it wasn't for the fact that it happens in a CQB setting, even when every bullet hits, when facing off against an opponent which is using a mid-long range weapon.

If you mean 2 fewer shots than is neccessary to bring down the shields, I wouldn't know, but if it is that, it's taken into account.

What I'm saying is that the number of rounds it takes to drop shields, and finish the SPARTAN off is too high.
