The AR in this game is crap! I always switch to magnum and 90% of the time i beat people with AR due to distance and power that the AR lacks. I liked the AR from H3 waaaay better!


Exactly. It needs a slight buff to balance it. 16 rounds to kill is the sweet spot.

The AR upsets me so.

I love the gun more than any other, but I have to swap to another weapon to actually kill someone in non-AR starting gametypes.

The AR cannot long range, so it seems wrong that it is greatly outmatched in close-medium range by the DMR. As cool as it is, the DMR is not the only gun in Reach.

Even Bungie are doing it. They have not once mentioned about the AR and yet they give tips with the DMR on how to win a duel or so.

I'd love for some more stopping power, enough that it beats the DMR in its (the ARs) designeted ranges.

It just seems funny that the recipe for the AR wouldn't change over years, but the DMR would then be upgraded to its successor, the BR because of its weakness.


This. That's why it needs slightly stronger rounds. Play Reach at 110 % damage. It improves the AR to that level, while leaving the number of shot's required for the DMR and Magnum the same (the rounds are only slightly stronger).

Please don't let this die, this is my major gripe with Reach. An actual multiplayer problem, not people not adapting to armor lock, or people not understanding bloom!

I like the idea of theoretically being able to kill 2 people with one AR clip, the H3 AR had it, and now with bloom, burst firing is actually a viable strategy, so yes, I would like to win if I am burst firing it at medium range more often.

Exactly! And rushing is no longer dominant because of the new melee system. This is a change that needs to be implemented!

Well, it's Friday. If Bungie (read: Urk) is going to show up in here, it'll probably happen at around lunch.

Back to the topic at hand, I'm going to put up a blanket response to the "Adapt" crowd right here; I would, but I have less than 30 kills with it in Matchmaking, because it deep throats the barrel of the DMR. Even bursting to the head of someone with no shields at point blank doesn't guarantee a kill, as the DMR guy only needs a single round to kill you. I wish it was a "headshot" (not the medal) capable weapon to anywhere on the helmet like the DMR, but it isn't. The weapons are firing the same caliber of rounds, and it doesn't really make sense that the long range one is such a god machine in CQC.

I just discovered an ingenious way of putting it for all of those Halo 3 monkeys in here: Do you remember the Hornet from Vanilla Halo 3? The one with the guided Anti-everything missiles and .50 caliber chainguns? The DMR is to the AR what those god killers were to you.

I absolutely support this thread , with the new melee system there is no reason to leave the AR so weak.

Why not use the full designation? It shows the OP actually cares enough about the topic to attract the crowd of still intelligent posters here. It also irritates the lazy arses on this forum, so I give bonus points for that.

Thanks. Fact is that I wanted to have genuine Halo fans, and intelligent posters here, which was exactly why I used the full designation- people who wouldn't care, would say adapt or not get half of what I'm saying => wouldn't click on the thread in the first place.

Actually, 18 rounds is just fine. Or is 20? No matter, the rate of fire is a bit too slow, that is the issue.
Of course the AR is pretty much all right ATM, if melee would be a better alternative.
EDIT, thought about this a bit more and.. i'd rather have a bit more damage than ROF to keep the accuracy better.

Plasma Repeater could use faster (like 25-50%) plasma bolts, the weapon is useless at ranges over 10 meters.

I find the new AR to sound and look like a killing machine which shoots rounds which shold hammer away at the shields and rip through armor.

Thats obviously not the case though. It should have stronger rounds.

16 rounds to kill is where it's supposed to be to make it a ballanced weapon, which rewards skill.

I'd be content with just a damage boost. Juts two rounds.

It's the only human automatic weapon in Reach. It's the standard issue weapon for the UNSC army. Why does it shoot popcorn which is labeled as the same round fired by the DMR?

I agree OP. I uselly don't bother burst firing in MP because its so weak. If it could kill two guys with one clip it would be better.

Even with my proposal it would be EXTREMELY hard to kill 2 guys without reloading or switching weapons.

This would however give it a better edge in battles, rewarding skilled AR users :)

because of this, it makes you try to get better weapons around the map. if you started with an allmighty weapon(*cough*BR*cough,cough*), then there would be no reason to go for a better one. you would jush kill, die, respawn, and repeat.

Increasing the damage gives you the theoretical 2 kills. Which are in practice nearly impossible.

This would serve only to IMPROVE BURSTING => INCREASING THE SKILL GAP between the good players and the bad ones.

See where I'm coming from?
