There's something very special about ODST that I like over Reach. I'm not sure what it is, but I just genuinely enjoy the game a lot more. The only thing Reach has over it for me are graphics and weapon designs.
It's different, and in a way, nostalgic.
I think what alot of it is is the memories that people created. In your case I wouldn't say it as much, yet many people say-"This game doesn't have the classic feel of Halo and isn't fun." Mainly this is because of the memories they had, the times with friends, or the awe they had whether it was their first Halo game. ODST is nostalgic to me because of how it was my First Halo game, and how Halo 3 in return, my first online shooter. I agree it doesn't have that "feel" to it, yet in time I think it will.
I love ODST for a variety of reasons which are quite simple.
I didn't know about ODST until a week before its release. I had been a Halo fan (albeit to a lesser extent) up until that point, and I had just started playing H3 online. Curious, I searched on it and began studying up on the B.net articles. Eventually I watched the entire Campaign on youtube and bought it the following week.
I just fell in love with it. It was so different and unique, and I was excited to play through the Campaign. I loved the story and the music, and the gameplay was much more interesting than Halo 3 was. Part of it is indeed the memories, because that first 5 hour long Firefight match I did with my brother was so much fun. I was so excited for Firefight because I'd wanted it in Halo since 2005.
ODST has its own issues just like the rest of the games. Most of the issues with it though is the fact that it didn't have enough content. Reach has plenty of content, but there are so many contradictions and objects that still need tweaking and refining. It just feels unfinished. With ODST, the only dissatisfaction I had was the desire to have more. I wanted more FF maps, more customization, and more ways to explore the Mombassa HUB.
