Subject: Normal Humans wearing MJOLNIR

I don't care. I really don't.

Now, I read the books and I know Dr. Hlasey said that it can't be done.
But when you read the manual for Reach, it states that the Sprint armour ability is a "hack" by S-320 (Kat) that overrides the safety precautions and allows the user to move faster.
Now, what if someone took the same "hack" and reversed it, making it slower, and if someone without augmentaions had the right training and enough time, could wear it.

I was wondering what people think, whether it's possible or not.

Well, according to 343 anyone can wear MJOLNIR. And of course, 343 canon overrides Eric Nylund.

I don't believe that anyone but altered humans can wear the armor. The suits enhance a person's capabilities beyond what a normal body, joints, muscles, etc can take.

Only humans who have carbide ceramic ossification, a skeletal augmentation, such as a SPARTAN-II, can safely wear the suit.
In its final phase the MJOLNIR battlesuit weighs half a ton, or 1000 Lbs and when in use

But what if it's slowed down? I mean, Halsey said it couldn't be sped up yet Kat managed to do it anyways.
And the whole reason it needs augmented humans is because they have bones that are strong enough to withstand it's speed.

Message me if you want, I will try to get back as soon as possible.

See you on the forums and in the games.

It's not all about speed, the thing ways half a ton and also any misuse (attempt to run/jump) would probably end in the normal human killing himself.

Actually it is. The suit supports itself and protects the user; the reason the guy died is because he moved too fast for his body to be able to hold itself together, not the stength or the motion itself.

I just would like to know what people think of the notion and whether it's possible, not people telling me what everybody knows already (except those who haven't read the books of course).

I guess, if a human could use it it would be cool. However, they would never use it to it's full potential. Not having bone enhancements means no jumping 10 feet up, running 60km/h, or surviving an unaided entrance into the atmosphere.

True, but they still get to flip overturned warthogs (if a Spartan can flip a tank then this is probably possible), utilize turrets of their stands, advanced comms, energy shielding and still highly enhanced speed. It's not crazy like Spartans, but it's pretty damn useful if there are a few spare suits lying around doing nothing but collect dust.

Well if there are extras sign me up!

Only thing I would disagree with is the extra strength. The armor amplifies Spartan strength so they can do what they do. If the suit is turned down a notch, as you suggested, I don't think the normal person would be able to do some of the really heavy lifting.

I don't care. I really don't.

That's what I was thinking!

On the strength thing: Spartan=66 ton tanks flipping right over. I think a human would do a 3 ton Warthog, but if not some good old turret action is still there.

*hears some spooling up of a three barreled minigun*
Oh yeah!

  • 11.16.2010 9:41 PM PDT

Spartans can't really flip a tank in-universe. It's a game mechanic. Same reason we aren't dashing around at 30-55 kilo's an hour, and why we don't have bullet-time.

A Spartan would struggle with a warthog. A normal marine, even in Mjolnir, wouldn't do more than rock it around.

  • 11.16.2010 10:34 PM PDT

As far as I understood the suit weights half a ton and that if the suit were to malfunction then a Spartan would still be able to move around in it without breaking every bone in his body while a regular human would be completely helpless and probably dead because of injuries from his 1000 pounds of powered armor suddenly becoming 1000 pounds of non-powered armor.

War is Human Nature, without War there cannot be peace, without peace there cannot be war.

just a note: the MJOLNIR Powered-assault armor is actually self supported even when the fusion reactor that powers it is disabled. and something that a normal marine would never be able to do is use Armor Lock. they'd flatten themselves like pancakes. I still like the notion of normal humans using the MJOLNIR system though.

A normal person could probably wear it, but because of the weight, not move in it! :D

They should be able to limit the speed at which the armor moves to make it safe for normal humans. But given the extreme cost of MJOLNIR, it would be unlikely that normal humans would be given the opportunity to wear it.

It has no weight because it supports itself. That's the whole point of MJOLNIR; if it didn't support itself, Halo would play slower in movement wise than Gears, with every so often the character falling down to take a long breather.

Exactly. While such a suit would probably be technically feasible, it certainly wouldn't be economically feasible. In order for the suits' costs to make sense, they would have to be used at their full potential, otherwise, they are just wasting money.

It would be like taking an F-22 Raptor and sticking a propeller on the front, just to make it slower so less experienced pilots could handle it.

Well in Halsey's diary it did say that a marine tried to wear MJOLNIR IV and it didn't end up nice in the end :p.

I love the entire Halo series, Halo 2 being my favorite of the games. I think that the universe is compelling and the story is deep, sweeping, and powerful. The hidden layers in the Halo trilogy and rich details of the backstory in the novels are something I love to be lost in, and im greatly looking forward to the story that Halo: Reach will weave. Bungie has carefully and lovingly crafted a mythic tale that will stay etched in my mind until the end.

Just so you all know... UNSC was in the process of making MJOLNIR- like suits that unaugmented humans could wear. I belive the project was called YGGDRASIL.

That guy was wearing a marine helmet within the larger suit. It was clearly closer to the MK I-III or the goliath, as opposed to the suits the S-IIs and IIIs wear.

I thought the MJOLNIR armor was only built for Spartans that had reinforced bones.
