Ever wonder if simulants would ever make it into Halo 2? Well I have, and others have too, but ever since the original Halo 2 FAQ was created more than a year ago, the topic has not been discussed. Weird? Yep. The inclusion of bots into a game has made tremendous impact, not only on sales but also on plain enjoyment. While some companies have implemented poorly configured simulants that seem to enjoy mindlessly running around rather than actually playing, those that are properly coded can often make or break a game's general success on the shelves. One title that stands out from the crowd is Rareware's Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64 console. While the single-player missions definitely had replay value, the one thing that kept players going for hours on end has got to be the addition of simulants and the myriad of options provided to gamers. It is simple to see how this can easily add hours of enjoyment onto a game, long after the game is released. A few years after Halo 2 is completed and the players willing to join a CTF game on Xbox Live has dwindled, bots can make a ho-hum 2vs2 match into a 8vs8 fragfest of glory, no matter how many players were available. But what is Bungie's stand on this? Unfortunately, the outlook is not very good. On the Halo 2 FAQ, when asked if bots will be available, they have said, "We have not made a final decision regarding bots yet. The team has heard the cries of fans and we're exploring ways to make multiplayer games more enjoyable for gamers with only 2 controllers and no Live access." Obviously they know there is desire for bots, but even after more than a year after this FAQ was created, the question has not been answered. Repeated attempts to find an answer from within Bungie has been met with vagaries and misdirection. Does this mean they are trying to keep it a surprise, or simply do not want to disappoint fans just yet? Either way, time has not yet run out. No definite completion date for Halo 2 has been offered, and I believe the time spent on properly implementing bots would be returned exponentially in the form of increased fan base, enjoyment, and profit. It is a win-win situation all around. So I encourage you, write to Bungie, requesting that bots be put into the game. Let not this opportunity pass, for now our voice can be heard the loudest. Semper Fi.

Bots can be the difference between a top game and avrage game (roughly).
And i totaly agree with you that PD had the best bots you could have.

yes perfict dark had some of the beast multi feachers yet to be matched as well like counter op and all those weapons.. but the main thing hear is the botz we need botz. and if they could do it on the N64 and have all that stuff then dang it we sould have not much problem hear eather. and pluse they would be a lot better with the bungie AI as long as they are just as customizable as the ons in PD its could be rely fun thing

I am suprised to see how many games that could be great simply don't have bots... I've actually spoken to Marty about this before, but he's been elusive as a fox.

I really don't see why it would be that difficult. It was suprising to see that bots got cut out in the first Halo, but if they don't make it in Halo 2, that would be absolutely tragic. They already have excellent AI, how hard could it really be? It would add so much more dimension to a game that already is looking to be the best Xbox title and FPS shooter to date. Let's hope Bungie doesn't keep it's head in the ground about this issue.

I totally agree with Monk. If games like Perfect Dark and Red Faction 2 can include bots I’m sure that a talented company like Bungie should have no problem making the best bots ever seen. Halo could have been a better game if bots were included. I can’t see Bungie not spending the time to include them in the game. This is one of the three things that were missing in halo (the other two, level design and not enough weapons) I am willing to wait until EARLY 2005 if that’s what it takes. (looks around in fear) So Bungie it you are reading this, WE WANT BOTS!!! WE WANT BOTS!!! WE WANT BOTS!!! WE WANT BOTS!!!….etc.

I just wanted to chime in and speak for all those poor folks ( like me ) who dont have dsl or cable.

Bots are a MUST for MP games. we have LAN parties all the time, but bots would really kick it up a notch when you cant get 16 people with the same schedule. Plus you could test out differant game settings without pissing off a bunch of bloodthirsty Halo playing friends in the process.
Like everyone else has said, if Perfect Dark ( great game ) can have bots, theres no reason Halo2 could'nt have them.

I don't think bots would be that fun. Look, after playing a while you figure out what they do, where they go, where they don't go, etc. Bots are zeros and ones; they are predictable. The human brain is much more complex. You might always do something surprising. Bots would suck, and be just annoying after a while. I would recommend playing campaign for yourself, but then play with Humans.

I can't even play Battlefield 1942 with all of the updates nowadays. I play with the bots constantly. I wouldn't mind waiting a few months, even, if Bungie wanted to implement bots.

That's not the point. The point isn't that you play the bots all the time. It's that you can play bots if there are no people around to play or if you cannot get Xbox Live.

Bots in Halo 2 would be awesome. Frankly, I was very disappointed when Halo didn't have bots. I am unable to get DSL/Cable, so I can't just go on XBL and play against human opponents 24/7. I also don't have 16 close friends to come over and play Halo LAN. Bots would greatly improve the replay value of Halo 2. If bots had been in Halo, I would be playing it now. I go through patches every couple of weeks where I pick up Halo and play through the campaign, but after a while it really does get old...so Bungie, I implore you, Please oh great and powerful Bungie, please have the generosity to put bots in Halo 2.

It not too hard to make bots seem human-like. PD did a great job, as me and my friends sometimes thought that they were 'learning' because it was scary how they started to pick up on certain things. And bots can always be improved. With the updates and such w/ Xbox Live, upgraded AI should prove to be no problem. And then you could have bot personalites, as PD, and the enemy would try to figure out if he was a sniper, an assulter, a flag runner, etc. It would leave an indelible mark as to completely complement the whole gaming experience, especially for those lots of folk who don't have Xbox Live.

I agree w/ Monk007, they can always update bots if they need some adjustments or "human-like qualities"

Yes, i think Bungie should put bots in. People (Including myself, alot) have put AI in multiplayer. So i don't think it'd be too hard for Bungie. I think its more of a matter of time, and the space on the Halo2 disc.

It seems that Bungie has enough time on their hands; goodness, we have to wait until fall! Although I know that the time is well spent and will only make the game better.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have a lot more weapons this time around. Has anybody seen the actual needle of the new needler? They show the weapon in Game Informer's pics, but I haven't seen the projectile type, or why the Needler will be more desirable this time around. I'm guessing that it will either be much faster this time around, or else it will track much more than before.

there should be bots after all they did to impliment all that AI juice... the least they could do is add some bots in a 1 player MP mode

Who knows, with the Xbox capabilites, you might be able to play a massive 32 PLAYER match, complete with Elite-Spartan, Bot-Human mixes! LAN Parties would take on a whole new meaning. Just imagine a CTF game with four teams with something of that size.....I'm getting goosebumps!

i think its a tossup for bungie. i dont think they have completely ruled out the possibility of bots in halo 2. they probably would have said so by now. i think they are either still testing and deciding, or they are going to do it.

I live in a hick town. :(

I'll tell you all what: I'll take one for the team. Frank can have my manbabies if he wishes, as long as we all get bots.

ICEBOX makes sense here. Although the argument for bots may look weak, the fact is, is the Bungie has not ruled out bots, and the fact that Marty is so squeamish whenever anybody mentions the words 'bots','simulants', or 'replicants', has to account for something. If they are still testing and deciding and are unsure whether to put them into the game or not, then I'll post every day if that's what it takes to make sure they are there. Bots are really that important, in almost every game I've seen.

Yeah, bots should definitely make it into Halo2. There have been countless times I've wanted kill and maim something on a multiplayer map but have not had anyone around to do it to. Bungie really needs to hear us on this one. ;-)
