Subject: What do you like about Halo: CE?

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

I'm absolutely in love with the warthog drive on The Maw.

Sniper rifle night vision. Almost useless, but still awesome.

Everything, the guns, the maps, the campaign levels, the suspenseful music....Good times..:)

  • 11.18.2010 7:26 AM PDT

All of it, especially the Assault Rifle and AotCR

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

3-shot pistol, Sniper night-vision, an extremely challenging campaign, Warthog run with a timer, and the maps (Boarding Action and Hang 'Em High are awesome).

The plot did it for me... So, original. And the levels carried out the plot so well.

Very true, plus the maps were open for a little exploration.

Halo 3 is where the morons of the universe congregates.

I am thinking of an old story. "Three Billy Goats Gruff" (hint the troll dies at the end)

If you had an electron microscope, you still couldn't find the -blam!- I don't give.

Grunts. They simply made the game. Bungie got the fact that in a FPS, the player is looking at enemies 90% of the time. Even the mighty Gears had zero non-combat animations. CE had sleeping, waiting, panicking and combat-ready Grunts. That sold it. And the little jerks injected much needed humor into a relatively tense scene. As organic and deadly as anything that's happened in gaming since. I tip my hat to the humble Grunt.

Character design in general is insanely good in HCE. You ever see a jackal give you a good pointing in any of the other games?
Part of it is the general visual style of Halo 2 and beyond, I think. Animations have been jerky and fake-looking in the series ever since.

It's only of those things that Bungie never really got right again IMO.

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

The campaign is just amazing, and fun to play over and over again. The universe itself in the game is awesome, the enemies are intriguing, and unlike most games, the aliens aren't brainless beasts (with the exception of the Flood).

Are you hinting at the game within the game, Bob ? The unparalleled genius of the absurd, over-the-top Library ? The overkill of that was comically brilliant. I literally laughed at it on my second play through. Same physics, new deal.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Multi-player. Campaign. Sniper Rifle. Blood Gulch. Two Betrayals. Flood. Grunts. Elites. Beautiful Environment. Warthogs.

Everything.

I loved playing on a really good team. On XBC and local tournaments (I live in Atlanta, the Halo 1 Capital of the World) beating other teams in Slayer 50-3 or 3-0 in CTF was great. I understand why Bungie changed it up and made it more beginner friendly in H2 but the better team always won in Halo CE.

This. And theres something about the mood of the levels from the second part of cartagrapher, assualt on the control room, and two betrayls thats lonely and mysterious. Also the flood can be freaking scary sometimes. And the story in my opinion is good enough to be compared with star wars, lord of the rings, and other epics

M6D

The wide open expanse of level 2(Halo). It wasn't until years later that I actually drove every square inch of it and found it wasn't as big as it seems. Just very, very clever use of terrain effects by Bungie.
Two battle sequences still stick in my mind as absolute perfection.
The 'Dance of the Dropships'-between Flawless Cowboy and Reunion Tour, and the grav-lift firefight on Belly of the Beast.
I spent countless hours perfecting my moves for those two fights and, to this day, things can still go haywire on Belly of the Beast in a hurry.

Wonderful!

A great post the day before Thanksgiving. The first time I ever loaded the disk into the tray I really did not know what to expect. Sure the cover art and booklet were cool, but having had nothing but bad experiences with games bought before Halo, I figured I would wait to judge it until I had played it a bit. Yeah, that lasted till the opening cut scene, I was blown away by the scope and drama of it. The panning in to the PoA, the Longsword fighter escort...I knew right then and there that I was in trouble as this game was going to cost me alot of productive time!

Keeping in the theme of the season, I am thankful for:

1-The sound and animation of the shotgun loading and being fired, Halo 2 is weak as -blam!- in comparison.

2-The overall great look and feel of the scenes, right down to the sounds of the wind blowing while you are standing on the cliff paths at the opening to T & R.

3-The quality of the enemies, especially Elites and Grunts. They are not only dangerous (I have died at a Grunts hands almost as much as any other, damn lil buggers are evil in numbers when you are playing up close and personal rather than distance killing)but cut the tension with great dialogue. C'mon, admit it, the first time you pissed off an elite and he growled at you, your seat got wet.

4-The music. Personally, I much prefer the music in CE to H2. The actual Halo Theme, with the strings, very powerful and with a great hook to it. The other music just goes well with each individual environment. I thought that H2's music got a bit too carried away. Sometimes less is more.

5-The story and it's twists. I used to read alot of science fiction, and now read alot of true life accounts of soldiers. The way the story unfolds, the characters, the settings, it is a great read. Even better that you get to play it!

6-The variety of ways you can approach the gameplay is better than any other game I have played. You are not just playing the exact same game, doing exactly the same thing in the same way every time through. With CE, the weapon combos you can use, or exclude can change things dramatically. You can walk almost the entire game if you choose, never letting a chain gunner take the fun of the kill away. You can play melee and grenades only through every level up to the Library (yes, you can, I have done it, not easy but can be done and without bypassing enemies and still killing all covie vehicles) if you have the patience and think your way through it. With other games, good luck doing that.

I could go on, but most of you have probably stopped reading by now!

Happy Thanksgiving!

EVERYTHING. it may sound weird but i probably loved the library level the most just because of the diffuclty

  • 11.26.2010 12:23 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

The simplicity of it. That's what made it the best.
