ummm.... I play all the time, and never get cheated. If your unlucky.... deal with it. Plus half the people that think they are being cheated arent. I get accused of cheating all the time. Any decent player does. Laggy games is not cheating, thats just because you have a suckass connection. Quit the game, your gonna lose anyways, might as well quit then start a new one.
The reason Halo 1 sucks compared to halo 2 is because its a one gun game. I played a game of halo 1 a week ago, I had 50 kills, closest person had 8. The people I played with couldnt use the pistol, therefore they sucked. In halo 2, one gun is not good for all situations, but some people think it is, thats why they run through the middle on coag, get sniped, and -blam!- about auto-aim.
Thats alsol why people -blam!- about the not having the original pistol, because they were gods with it and no one else was, therefore creating the illusion they were actually good at a game. But when halo 2 came out, and it was no longer a narrow pistol battle game, people began to -blam!-, because they lost.
99% of the people who -blam!- are the ones that lose, because they cant realize they are not the best. They scream when someone kills them with a good gernade saying "OMG HE USES HACKS, THAT GERNADED HOMED IN ON ME" or when someone gets a good snipe they yell, "DAMN WHORE". You can always tell the people who suck by how they cant stand dieing, because they die so much.
Paragraphs, man. Paragraphs. They are a great tool. Learn to use 'em. I did it for you, but please, next time, try not to type a SolidBlockofWhiteText(tm). It just hurts people's eyes.
Anyway. I mostly agree with what you've said. I've played games where no one was standbying, but because there was a little bit of lag, and we went to the blue screen a few times, all of a sudden everyone was accusing each other of standbying. It's ridiculous.. Once, I was called a standbyer, even though everytime we went to the blue screen, people on my team would die.
I also played a Team Slayer/Warlock where the other team was calling us modders the whole time. What happened was, we get into the game, go "Oh crap! Warlock! A new map!" then, we realize that they weren't hacking, so we go, "Phew, no modders." Then, it's like some alarm went off in some guy's head on the other team, it was like, "OMG!11!1!! They sAiD 'moddurz'! they R winning!1! they must be moddurz!11!!! moddurz moddurz moddurz!!!" Or something like that... Even though we were only winning by a few points the whole time and did nothing that could be considered modding.
With that said, you have no idea how much cheating goes on online.
I play all the time, and never get cheated.
That might just be because you're only 27 in Slayer, and have hardly played any Skirmish, BTB, or Double Team. The amount of cheating that goes on in the 30+ range is horrendous. When my friends and I used to play a lot of Slayer, we actually started using a little trick to make sure that we didn't ever play on the new maps (I won't say what the trick is), just because every single time we played a new map, we got modded. Every. Single. Time. I cannot remember one time that we got Warlock, Sanctuary, Turf, etc., without playing against modders. There is still plenty of cheating pre-30, but it ramps up significantly at 30 and above. And if it's not modders, it's standbyers. The highest I've ever gotten in Slayer was 34 before we got standbyed or modded and went back down to 32. No, our little trick isn't foolproof, it does fail sometimes. Sometimes a new map slips through and we get modded and lose a level.
I'm currently level 30 in Slayer because after a while I just got fed up with all the bulls***. I ditched Halo 2 around the beginning of September and never looked back. The only reason I came back was for Team Hardcore. I like it so much better than any of the other playlists. Not just the fact that it's BR spawn and no radar. I like that the maps and gametypes are carefully thought out in order to provide a highly competitive environment. There's hardly any gametypes in Hardcore where you just need to control one weapon to win, be it the Sword, the Sniper, etc. All the maps I hated aren't in Hardcore. That's why I play it. We've only gotten standbyed once in Hardcore so far.
I don't know if the level of cheating has gone down since I originally stopped playing Halo 2, so keep in mind that my experience described above about cheating in the 30+ ranks was from before Hardcore existed, back when there were still leaderboards. I really hope that the cheaters have moved on because I know that if PDZ or CoD 2 don't have solid multiplayer, then I'll still be playing Halo 2 online on my shiny, new Xbox 360.
Happy Birthday Halo 2! It's been a great year, sometimes frustrating, but mostly fun. If any of you who want to know the trick to avoid new maps is to listen to your xbox VERY CAREFULLY. If you hear it making some sort of loading noise, it is loading a new map from YOUR xbox, so you know if it is a new map. It should work most of the time, but it isn't fool proof. But it works...
