Doom's graphics are all it's got going for it. It's a bimbo game.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Doom3 is all about it's visuals, I agree with that. But in this case, the visuals are so damn good that it carries the game by itself.

I mean, if any of Doom3's critics played the game as it was supposed to be played (i.e. in the dark, alone, with headphones) and forgot about it's shortcoming of gameplay innovation, they would be singing a different tune. Doom 3's graphics and atmosphere ARE it's innovations!

I love it, but I agree that Halo 2 will better. Doom 3 was a fun return to old school gameplay. I don't know why the topic starter sees this as such a threat to his Halo fanboyhood.
