The Past Is For Reference Not For Residents

where is it and is it close to the halo 3 Ark?

Reach orbits Epsilon Eridani, which is approximately 10.5 lightyears from Earth. Since The Ark is outside the Milky Way, it's very far away from Reach.

Drip drop, slice and chop, chase the rabbit, Hop! Hop! Hop! Run away, I don’t care, I will find you anywhere :)

I think it is less that 15 light years away, which is a very short distance in comparison to the size of the universe. And the ark in out of the Milky Way, it isn't confirmed how far though.

Doesn't Guilty Spark tell Master Chief how far away they are when they find the Cartographer in H3?

2^18 light-years from Galactic Center. So at most ~287,000 ly from Reach/earth.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

That's quite a trip.

Basically meaning there is no way in hell Master Chief and Cortana will return any soon. I don't even think the beacon Cortana dropped will ever reach humanity, unless they have ridicously advanced communications technology in the Halo universe.

that all depends on where the rear section of the dawn is in the galaxy, it could be very close to earth or it could be on the very edge of the galaxy, either way i don't think rescue from a UNSC ship is coming, due to the fact the UNSC was devastated by the war and has very very few ships to spare, recolonising the fallen worlds would likely take priority. perhaps a pick-up by a sangheili ship might be more plausable, but still not very likely. i think the key to johns survival is whatever is on the 'legendary' planet, its clearly forerunner and could have something useful (i.e. a forerunner ship) to commandeer. roll on halo IV thats what i say, and all will hopefully be answered!
