why did he not shoot the phantom that was RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM? if he had six would have lived and the war would have had less casualty's. so thanks to emile being lazy he made it harder on humanity.

The gun was already aimed at the Cruiser and couldn't turn fast enough to shoot down the phantom...

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

being lazy
lolwut? Keyes ordered him to take aim at the cruiser. Even then, that phantom was only a few yards away from Keyes' pelican when it showed up.

ok and? the cruiser was still pretty far away when six gets up there. emile had time to shoot the phantom and take aim again before it was time to shoot the cruiser he just ddnt feel like shooting it and it cost him.

Because he was ordered not to. See where I'm going with this?

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

Right.

Except he wasn't ordered to not shoot the Phantom.

Anyway, I guess he probably didn't notice it because he was paying attention to the Cruiser.

so that means most likely keyes ordering him to not shoot the drop ship caused his own death which means keyes technically killed himself

Possible reasons:
1. the phantom was to close
2. the gun turns slow
3. he was ordered to aim for the cruiser by keys
4. u acually see him turning the gun if u pay close attention
5. it would ruin halo's story

CoD is a good game, even if the Halo series are better in some aspects. Anyone who insults either is just bad in that game. Grow up.

Agreed. I must have shot down 10+ phantoms/banshees when I got to the MAC. But that part wasn't even the worst part surrounding Emile's death. He died because 1. He let the zealots get close enough to attack him, and 2, He got cocky after he killed the first one, and somehow does not notice the 2nd zealot. (who was a full head taller than he was, with no camo and MUST have been on his motion sensor) That goes against everything that Spartan training should be.

Well, that's one way of looking at it.

The Phantom came in at an impossible angle while Emile was probably aiming at other targets, thus he didn't have enough time to correct his aim before it was on top of him.

And yes he got cocky, a character flaw to be sure. But we have no idea what state his armor systems were in or how many dots where on his radar due to nearby Banshees and other incoming Phantoms and such.

Cocky=exactly the sort of thing that Spartan training and all the years of operational history should have eliminated. Things like pride and humor won't help you in a battle; this is one of the reasons why most Spartans appear so robot-like to outsiders. That already makes Emile appear retarded.

And even with his motion sensor compromised, he still should have felt SOMETHING. For god's sake the thing is 8-9 feet tall, it would probably have made some noise or even shake the ground.Of the five senses, only his sense of smell couldn't have helped him figure out that something is wrong. And don't forget he's a Spartan, and he has super-enhanced senses. At the very least he should have tried to dodge out of the way like Noble 6 did on Winter Contingency.

Seth Burns =)

Because it's a video game designed for a dramatic outtro. Not a logically realistic story.

From The Begining You Know The End
Absence of Evidence is not Evidence of Absence.

Emiles death was not an epic fail it was just the imfamious BUNGIE trying to make the character dare i say a bad <instert word here> plus half the reason why ppl like Emile was because he wasnt like the other spartans if anything it was an epic death i mean come on now he got stabed by an energy sword and lived long enough to kill the elite so if u feel its and epic fail ur wrong because if u look closey he tries to turn his gun to kill that phantom and another thing i would like to see u live that fight.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

The Covenant Cruiser is a more important target, and as mentioned before, the gun was aimed at it.

  • 11.21.2010 4:49 PM PDT

Of course his death was an epic fail.

Motion trackers, come on now...dude was that arrogant. How someone as stupid as he is, became a Spartan, oh well.

Two, Bungie's writing sucks. That's just it. They went all Hollywood and cliche with everyone's deaths, except for Noble 6's.

How would he feel it? Go to a subway station and as the subway comes into the station have someone walk up behind you. Are you going to notice the subway, or the person behind you? There Banshees above and a phantom that was overhead, i would think those vibrations might be more than that of an elite's. The same would go for hearing.

A subway passing by is hardly equal to a phantom overhead, especially since the covenant don't use air propulsion systems to stay airborne. They use anti-grav generators, not to mention that the phantom is already gone by the time Emile gets stabbed. But sure, I'll bite.

We are talking about a spartan specialized in CQC here. Emile, of all of Noble Team, should be the most adept at close engagements and therefore should not have fallen for such an easy ploy. Your previous points about the ambient noise (which there were pretty much none) and whatnot still does not change the fact that he is a spartan with super-enhanced senses, and if there is something so big standing behind him, he SHOULD have noticed it for the reasons I listed in my previous post, which remain valid. This is assuming that he isn't using any of his armour's systems to help him.

Again, the main reason he failed so hard is that he went "Who's next?" after he killed the first elite, which goes against everything that Spartan training should have taught him. Letting his guard down in a hostile area after he's just been attacked is pretty damn stupid.

I also just re-watched the video, and though the events occurred slightly faster than I remember, there is still plenty of time for a Spartan to react. In fact, the Elite growled pretty damn loud before he swung his sword back and THEN impaled Emile. This all go towards how Bungie always downplay the Spartans' abilities in the games.

Here is Emile's death
