CoD is a good game, even if the Halo series are better in some aspects. Anyone who insults either is just bad in that game. Grow up.

The Phantom came in at an impossible angle while Emile was probably aiming at other targets, thus he didn't have enough time to correct his aim before it was on top of him.
And yes he got cocky, a character flaw to be sure. But we have no idea what state his armor systems were in or how many dots where on his radar due to nearby Banshees and other incoming Phantoms and such.
Cocky=exactly the sort of thing that Spartan training and all the years of operational history should have eliminated. Things like pride and humor won't help you in a battle; this is one of the reasons why most Spartans appear so robot-like to outsiders. That already makes Emile appear retarded.
And even with his motion sensor compromised, he still should have felt SOMETHING. For god's sake the thing is 8-9 feet tall, it would probably have made some noise or even shake the ground.Of the five senses, only his sense of smell couldn't have helped him figure out that something is wrong. And don't forget he's a Spartan, and he has super-enhanced senses. At the very least he should have tried to dodge out of the way like Noble 6 did on Winter Contingency.
How would he feel it? Go to a subway station and as the subway comes into the station have someone walk up behind you. Are you going to notice the subway, or the person behind you? There Banshees above and a phantom that was overhead, i would think those vibrations might be more than that of an elite's. The same would go for hearing.
A subway passing by is hardly equal to a phantom overhead, especially since the covenant don't use air propulsion systems to stay airborne. They use anti-grav generators, not to mention that the phantom is already gone by the time Emile gets stabbed. But sure, I'll bite.
We are talking about a spartan specialized in CQC here. Emile, of all of Noble Team, should be the most adept at close engagements and therefore should not have fallen for such an easy ploy. Your previous points about the ambient noise (which there were pretty much none) and whatnot still does not change the fact that he is a spartan with super-enhanced senses, and if there is something so big standing behind him, he SHOULD have noticed it for the reasons I listed in my previous post, which remain valid. This is assuming that he isn't using any of his armour's systems to help him.
Again, the main reason he failed so hard is that he went "Who's next?" after he killed the first elite, which goes against everything that Spartan training should have taught him. Letting his guard down in a hostile area after he's just been attacked is pretty damn stupid.
I also just re-watched the video, and though the events occurred slightly faster than I remember, there is still plenty of time for a Spartan to react. In fact, the Elite growled pretty damn loud before he swung his sword back and THEN impaled Emile. This all go towards how Bungie always downplay the Spartans' abilities in the games.
Here is Emile's death
