Yes, I'm sure that if Halo 1 live came out with live, it would sell a lot more than Halo2(sarcasm)

It wouldn't need to sell more or even as much as Halo 2, all it would be for Bungie is extra cash in their pocket. Since it wouldn't take much to get it online or repackage. They would basically be selling a slightly polished version of the exact same thing that came out years ago. And people WOULD buy it. Maybe not as many that bought Halo 2, but that doesn't really matter.

And yes, XBC can be fun, but it gets pretty laggy.

Here you are wrong again. Its not just "extra cash in their pocket". Doing the work isnt free. You say it wouldnt take much to do, but in reality you have absolutely no idea how much work it would take. First they would have to learn how the coding was done in that engine, spend the time to add the features, then spend a whole lot more time bug testing the new features and making corrections for the online issues that were caused.

You act as if they could put one guy on it for a couple days and package it, when it is actually a decent undertaking.

And you act like you do know how long it will take and how much money it would take to do this. Who are you to say it would take that much money? Who am I to say it wouldn't? Who fckuing cares? And even if it did cost them a little bit of money to do, the fanbase is out there. PEOPLE WOULD BUY IT. I know people love Halo 1 because its fanbase grew over 3 years. I also know that a lot of people are starting to not like Halo 2... and thats after under 1 year. So what is the issue with repackaging it. They would NOT lose money on this, even if it took 5 people 3 weeks to figure this siht out. People loved Halo 1. Even you, the depressing negative bastrad you are, once loved Halo 1.

Depressing negative bastard? Wow dude, you are seriously too emotional over this.

How do I know? I make games for a living. I am a coder. I am very used to diving into old code and repackaging/skinning/porting it for new purposed. Its is by far, something I most dislike about coding. Tons of time is wasted just on learning the interfaces and methods of the old engine. Its a major pain in the ass. you think it would take 5 people 3 weeks? Wow. That number was pulled out of thin air for sure.

I dont disagree that people would buy it. But the question is will enough people buy it to justify the cost? Is there enough data to back up the opinion that there is enough people to cover the cost? No, not from what I've seen.

And it seems that bungie shares the same opinion because they already said no. You think its so easy, but its not. Like I said, if it were bungie would do it in a snap to make money. And I think it would be cool, but I'm not letting a blind over emotional attachment to Halo 1 blind me to the facts and turn on bungie just because they had to make a business decision to not risk the cost. I completely understand that.

I suggest you try to realize you dont have all the answers and could be wrong and understand bungies reasons for not doing it. I'm sorry for you, I really am. And if bungie can find a cost-effective way of porting it without wasting too much of their own time and money, then I say go for it.

Otherwise, let it rest.

A friend of mine modded Halo: Combat Evolved to run with the live service. He set up his PC as a server & we played. Friends list and everything! Although he was the only 1 who appeared online.

ask your friend how he did it, and perhaps post a tutorial

Bungie doesn't have any plans whatsoever to make Halo live compatible, so I don't see the need to dicsuss this. That said, it would be fairly cool.

Exactly, there is no need for this topic, but people need something to talk about.

I doubt they would have to learn how the coding was done again, recently bungie was looking for c/c++ coders, so first assumption is that they work in C. using a simple // after the code line will allow you to type in documented text on what is going on, i'd go out on a limb and say that they even compiled it with these arguments. Naturally Microsoft have the source guarded in the microsoft fortress, skeletor probaly uses it as a pillow at night dreaming of she-ra.

As for testing i'm sure there are plenty of guys at bungie.org willing to do free of charge.

and i've been a paid developer since 88 covering Commodore 64, Atari St, Amiga, Lynx, SNES, pc and now gp32 using 6502 68000 pascal C, just incase you feel like yelling :)

Yes I'm aware of commenting code. I heavily comment my code, more so than most other coders I know.

However, even when code IS commented it still has to be learned, especially if you werent the coder. You have to learn all the methods and acceptable parameters, where everything is..and that is time consuming.

I have to get familiar with other peoples engines all the time like I have said, and it is not fun.

Regardless of whether it is commented or not, or whether there are lots of testers available it is not an easy, quick task like these pepole seem to think. That is the point I was making and if you are really a developer you should know what it is like.
