Bungie Software,

As being a deaf gamer, I always love to have games which includes subtitles so make a clear understanding what is happening in the game. I love Halo with all their wonderful graphics and gameplay, but what really disappoints me and several deaf friends I have is the ability to understand what's going on in movie scene where there is voices and no subtitles. We hardly understand whats the captain is saying or what to do.

I have played games like Grand Theft Auto where there is movie scenes with subtitles which makes it easier for us to know what to do and make the game more fun because i can understand what's going on. To be deaf and watching a movie without subtitles and not understand what's going on is like you watching someone talk another language and is clueless what to do.

Games such as Grand Theft Auto 3, True Crimes, and several others had gained popularity among me and other deaf people in community. We do not have to complain to the store to refund a game because we appreciate it including subtitles rather than taking it back, and tell the store, this game has no subtitles i can't accept it and want a refund. If you wonder, there is about a total of 21 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the US alone. (Of course it is population count from infant to old age, and profound deaf to minor hearing loss) If you could reach out to at least 10,000 deaf gamers to purchase halo 2, then that is still beneficial to your company.

I hope you would give it thought and contain subtitles in Halo 2 if you did not yet.

Thanks,
Samuel Carriger

I think that sounds fair. It could even be something you can turn on/off via audio options menu.

I agree that this would be a seemingly relatively simple thing to include that should be able to be turned on or off in the menu.

Well I had to read the manual to get part of the story. Look online FAQ to understand the story more. I do feel I shouldn't have to do all that search to understand the story. I should be able to understand the story from the movie scenes and etc whether than the hard way.

More power to you! I think there should be subtitles for the deaf (no offense). That would help a lot of people out. The on/off toggle is a great idea.

I do agree that people with your disability should have the option to turn on subtitles.

It wouldn't be hard really. Then if anyone wants them, they go into options and turn them on.

This should be an industry standard to include subtitles in the games so that people period not just those that are hearing impaired can have them... How many guys have a hard time hearing what is going on because of the wife or the girlfriend or even the parents talking or doing something... This is a great benefit to the hearing impaired community that should not even be a consideration it should just be there... But it should also be an option for those of us who need to turn the volume down so that people can sleep when you are playing those late night games... As I have already said this should be an industry standard and I am surprised that it is not a requirement for the industry and the hearing impaired community already... I am surprised there haven't been lawsuits for discrimination over it because if you think about it that is what it is... No one is being considerate of the hearing impaired community and someone should do something about it...

Yes, to those all all commented and supported the Idea, I appreciate your support. It is very urgent we have the halo team to have a chance to read this message hopefully and consider it to be an important factor in any game they make.

It is as well beneficial to hearing community in who wanted to turn off sound or if it's late night and want to play a game quietly and want to play it without interrupting anyone in sleep.

I really do support the idea of having subtitles as an option you can select before starting the game. If anyone know if bungie read this messageboard or not, or any way to send it to bungie directly to the team let them know about this.

Again, thanks to all those who agreed with my idea. I appreciate your responses.

Good post, stooge. =)

I'm not a Bungie employee, and I cannot guarantee the inclusion of subtitles for the hearing impaired. However, I do recall instances where this request has been made before, and Bungie employees agreeing that it's an important addition to the game.

So, personally, I think they'll have subtitles this time. =)

I'm not deaf, but I do watch movies with subtitles or closed captioning. I may be getting a bit hard of hearing (which is kind of scary, seeing as how I am only sixteen), but I most often can't understand that they're saying. I don't understand why subtitles/CC isn't required in a video game. It cannot cost all that much to produce...

I agree, there should be an option for the hearing impared on the Xbox Dashboard and for games. It would be extremely simple for you just to be able to pick whether you want subtitles or when you are setting up game options. Personally I would prefer that there is an option for a gamer to have subtitles or not because I would rather prefer that there are no subtitles for those who are not hearing impared, but for those who are I think there should be an option to turn subtitles on.
It would also be a smart move for Microsoft to include a subtitle option when you are setting up you system options. Hopefully they will include this for their next system because it would now attract hearing impared gamers to their console.
