1. Should be rated PG-13NO. A PG-13 Halo Flood would never carry the same scary feeling that they're supposed too in Halo CE. If we want this movie to carry the same epic, tragic and somber feel that we've wanted since Halo 2 was announced, it must be rated R.
I know where you're coming from, and I can see why you think that, but the fact of the matter is that R rated movies always recieve less of an audience that PG-13 movies. For quality's sake, yes, it should be R. But in order to make it into theaters and stay for more than a week, PG-13 would be the better option.
Besides, as much as I am a fan of action movies, I've never been a fan of unnecessary mutilation and gross images that R movies generally provoke more than others. I don't want Halo to become Saw Games 2.0 just because the Flood is implemented.
No, it doesn't need a PG-13 label to stay in longer than a week, most of the kids anyways will get older siblings or parents or friends to get them in anyways. Most of all that just because the Movie is rated R, doesn't mean that it won't be successful, remember there are just as many adults as there are kids, and a good percentage of them are sci-fi fans who will watch it regardless of anything.
Limiting them to PG-13 will hamper their abilities to think big. I want them to have the option of "Let's take it to the saw level" but then letting them realize that it shouldn't rest at that kind of level. If they are stuck in the tween friendly zone then it's going to have taken out any chance of seeing how brutal the halo universe is when it comes to combat. I don't expect to see arms and legs flying off frequently like in 300, but I would rather see that then some crappy star wars plasma round to the chest that only leaves a "scorched" spot when it hit. I want to see a burst of flame coming off of the skin as the plasma hits a marine, I want to see burnt stubs from a plasma grenade, I want to see Halo at it's greatest point in realism, and still maintaining subtlety when it comes to the violent action scenarios. Because that is how you make a good science fiction movie. The violence isn't even important when you get involved with the story, but hearing that it's not there is just a slap to the face for the story.
Not too mention that this is Halo that we are talking about, the only intensive action parts are brief, and without a huge emphasis on the action that is happening.
