Sorry if this is not as precise as most threads in this forum but I wanted to post my idea as well as see what others' thoughts are.
So my theory for "Halo 4" is that it is going to be related to a shield world, likely Onyx. Now most people have stated this relating to the Legendary ending of Halo 3, but I site other hints at Onyx specifically.
First, halo 3's terminals are centered around Forerunners and the "Sword and Shield" they developed to fend off the Flood during the Flood-Forerunner War.
More recently, it is obvious that Bungie wanted to expose people to at the very least the word "Onyx" and it's importance to the Halo universe. The final rank achievable in Arena as well as Commendations is "Onyx". Onyx is otherwise never mentioned (as far as I know) in any previous Halo game.
More importantly it is apparent that 343i wants to flush out the Forerunners and Precursors further with the Trilogy by Greg Bear. The Trilogy is likely to not finish for 3-4 years, which would tie nicely in around a game involving a Forerunner structure that is likely to possibly contain living Forerunners. This is the largest leap of my theory, which isn't much of one at all.
Even further with relation to the novels, a "Ghosts of Onyx sequel" is penned to Karen Travis, who is known for her strong personality/relationship-based works. I know we have no idea what the "sequel" will be about, and it is confirmed she is not picking up from Nylund left off, but it is related in some way to Ghosts of Onyx.
Tell me what you think, I know it is a very basic theory but many different angles seem to point towards flushing out the Forerunners/Precursors via another Forerunner structure.
:)
