Just like the shotgun, sniper rifle, or rocket launcher.

Umm I wouldn't really consider the shotgun or rocket launcher as "skilled weapons". But as far as these maps are concerned...man are they turning out to look really good! When they were first announced I was excited for a map pack itself, but to be honest I had extremely low expectations for the individual maps themselves after I thought about it.

No offense, but a large majority of the Reach maps so far have been a disappointment to me. Maybe I am just too used to previous Halo titles and have not adjusted to this as a new title, but never the less the original maps have been very lackluster as a whole. However, after seeing these 2 commentaries so far...the maps look AMAZING!

Obviously I have not played on the maps yet, but I will still say incredibly well done job DLC team!

I agree the sniper takes skill in certain situations but when your in the back of blood gulch or on any big map, no. I like sniping and get sniped quite a bit it is still a power weapon. btw the maps look sooo amazing!!! rocket hogs in multiplayer plus another map with a falcon now, it will be great. looking foward to new invasion

Wait, maybe I missed something but what map has a rocket hog?

You can call me Shank.

Anchor 9 looks like a great map for forced CQC. Great job with the visuals overall as well.

Good to see there are Bungie staff who also think armour lock is -blam!-, not so good to see there are Bungie staff who make corners and drops to help them escape from dying :P

Why is it that I'm not suprised to hear that Bungie is now playtesting the hell of these maps and involving the artists heavily with that gameplay testing when that implies that wasn't done before with the shipping maps for this game? Oh wait, because those maps were -blam!-. -blam!- enough that regardless of what gems come out through DLC, it won't compensate for the dreck that I'll have to put up with in matchmaking in order to get my occasional fix of something half-way decent (outside of the DLC playlist.)

No thanks, Bungie. You had your chance to impress me with multiplayer but choosing to phone it in with mundane garbage rather than putting your best foot forward has cost you 1 [former] fan's support.

Yep, i hated the whole. we were happy we could use sections of campaign as multi-player spaces.

So you're saying you copy pasted bits? cool.
i love how boneyard is the MP map with some added walls to stop you going in the other bits they actually made.

No thank you bungie. i want new maps. cool smaller maps like the pit. if you want to rip them out of campaign then there's a cool long corridor section inside one of the buildings in new Alexandra

Now that I've gotten the chance to put time aside for each video, all of the spaces in the pack look stellar. Pretty cool hearing the guys on the team share tidbits of the development process, too.

Definitely looking forward to stepping foot on the maps in a few days.

Tempest looks amazing!

Maybe a bit off topic, but where is the weekly update?

  • 11.27.2010 5:32 AM PDT

I wonder why they censored the gamertags. ANyway good maps (even if Anchor 9 has WAAAAY too many camper spots...)

I am absolutely loving the environment details. Absolutely beautiful. I'd love to see how well they can be integrated into machinima or even used to build awesome multiplayer variants.

The tunnel on Breakpoint looks like it could be retrofitted into an interesting and small zombie map similar to sections of Half-Life 2 with Headcrab zombies.

Can't wait to play them!

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Anchor 9 made me want to bring a few things up.

1. Instead of capturing The Pit in a new life, why not have just brought it back? Pit was awesome.

2. Designing escape routes all over the place? No wonder people say this game is so easy all the time, the Bungie Devs themselves suck at their game, making it easier for them, and then trickle down to being easier for everyone else.

3. I do like the risk-reward trade off idea for going outside.

4. The half-destroyed space station idea sounds great, why did it go away?

5. You forgot your blur quite a bit there.

Can't wait to play them. I am looking forward to 12:00 am on Wednesday. How will Bungie separate the people who have the maps and the people who don't?

Honestly they don't look THAT stunning, but I haven't paid that much attention to it so maybe I''ll change my mind later.

Either way I'm hoping that these will provide, gameplay wise.

Man I can't WAIT for the new maps! They... look... AWESOME!!

  • 11.28.2010 8:22 PM PDT

The last two maps look amazing and I can not wait for the release of the map pack coming up. As a whole, all three look visually stunning and I can not wait to see how all three of them actually play, in-game.

  • 11.28.2010 9:13 PM PDT

I'm from Australia and was wondering when the maps will be released here, will they be released when it is 30 November in the US or will we get them a few hours earlier?

Got halo 3 recon LEGIT people!!! Microsoft is annoying cause halo wars is the only game my friend modded for me ( sorry code of conduct ) and they band all achievements (only modded 15 achieve. in halo wars) DON'T DO IT ITS WORST MISTAKE OF LIFE
79/79 in halo 3 legit. 45/49 legit in ODST (never got last 4)

awesome maps but to many campaign maps and forge world maps. BRING BACK HALO 3 MAPS!! :)

Dark Neptune, a young amateur astronomer whose gaming life is no different from other teenagers of his age, though he controls it more strictly then others.

Best thing so far is that all 3 DLC maps had some "Halo 3" element inside it.

Tempest- "Inverted" Valhalla. Not sure what that exactly means according to HaloWaypoint, but heck, the mere mention of the map is enough to win over me.

Anchor 9- Basically inspired by The Pit. Now that's an instant WIN.

Breakpoint- The environment artist who worked on this map previously did the same for Avalanche. Dear God, I am already in love.

It looks like Anchor 9 is floating off center from Reach. I expect the gravity in space to pull directly towards the center of Reach then, not in sync with the orientation of Anchor 9. You guys are bad game designers if this isn't so.

Anchor 9 has it's own artificial gravity.

none of the maps are ripped from campaign, it is the opposite.
They were made for multiplayer first, then added into campaign with small changes.
