I heard someone say once (paraphrasing here) "Multiflag on Blood Gulch with your friends is what makes Halo, Halo." I GUARANTEE that more people agree with that sentiment than "Getting a 50 in MLG is what makes Halo, Halo." - Oboewan42

(also classified under the Zealot ranks)
This makes no sense to me. Each armor set has a unique name. They are not all in a category listed as "zealot."

You still are not understanding something. You don't support an argument with an assumption that is completely baseless and call it common sense. You have completely sidetracked this thread. I don't care about the title "General." It is irrelevant. I care about the title "Zealot" and the fact that it was always associated with Elites in golden armor.

There's General zealots, field master zealots, ship master zealots, Fleet admiral zealots, and...zealots.

If you don't fall under a specific category, then you're basically the honor guard that safeguards important religious items.

I'm going to be brave and be honest. I prefered the campaign when certain elites all wore the same armor but with different colors.

For example, Minors should be blue with normal armor, Majors should be red with normal armor, zealots gold with normal armor. All the others should be the same as in halo reach, c'ept for spec-ops which should be assault from Halo 3.

It's just my opinion though and I still like the campaign and the awsome armor perms.

Yeah, I understand what your saying entirely, but I see both sides of the argument. It is easier for gameplay reasons but if you think about it. Do you think a lowly minor that just joined would have the same armor as a Fleet Admiral for example? It makes more sense for the cannon but it is nice having color distinguish the ranks only.

Yes, but is there any evidence that this applies to the Generals and Field Marshals of Halo Reach? It seems like conjecture to me.

Show me where in halo 1, 2, 3 or ODST gold elites are refered to as zealots.

...everywhere.

blah blah blah Halowikia blah blah blah
That's not halo 1, 2, 3 or ODST.

Not sure I understand what you're getting at. If you'd scroll down the page like I asked, you'd see that they were in Halo 1 and 2. I never said they were in Halo 3 or ODST.

The pictures only contain gold elites. The word zealot only exists in the descriptions, which were written by halopedia's editors.

Right. This is now established.

So what's the problem? He asked 'where in halo 1 2 3 or ODST are Gold Elites called Zealots' and I gave him the link to a page about Zealots that are indeed in Halo 1 and 2.

I'm still not understandign where you're going with this. You want proof from the actual game saying that they're called Zealots? If so, I can't help there. It's just common knowledge for a lot of Halo fans that gold = Zealot, silver = Ultra, red= major, etc.

He has a valid point. Linking to a Halopedia article doesn't prove anything. There are only three sources in the Halopedia article for Zealots. One of them has already been covered here, and the other two don't actually have anything to do with the specific title of "Zealot."

But there must be an official source somewhere. I highly doubt that all of the Elite rank designations were invented by the Halopedia community.

A walking contradiction.

The actual origin of the title "Zealot", as several people have pointed out, is Halo 2's Uprising level. Before this, no one actually knew the rank of the Gold Elite in H:CE as it has never been described in-game or in its technical data file (The actor tags that do exist in H:CE are "elite" and "elite_special". The game system uses an AI system which determines how strong they are and labels them using colours.) In other words, it simply doesn't exist.

It is only after Halo 2 is released and its code analysed that people started labelling the Gold Elites in H:CE as Zealots. In the H2, the game has far more varied character tags; Minor_dog (dogmatic voice) and Minor_scl (Scully voice), Major_dog and Major_scl... etc. It also has a Zealot tag (Zealot_dog and Zealot_scl), showing that Bungie confirmed that Zealots are indeed the Gold-armoured Elites. Since then, it has been generalised by the fans that all Gold-armoured Elites in all games are Zealots.

There is no Zealots in H3 or H3: ODST however.... not that I know of.

A simple answer to this thread: Halo: Reach establishes that Zealot is not simply a rank but is actually an embodiment of ranks. It's a term that covers all ranks of a specific nature. The maroon-coloured Zealots (the Normal and Field Marshall), in my opinion, are Zealots of the SPECWAR division (hence, "Elite advance teams to hunt down artifacts of value to their religion"< as Halsey puts it) whereas the gold-coloured Zealots (General) are the battlefield/frontlines Zealots we've encountered in the past Halo titles, only with prettier armour.

Halopedia is one of the few Halo sites that always keeps track of the development of the Halo franchise... though it is not always accurate. So, I think it does prove something... :P

The articles are not proof, as they a written by regular fans. It's the linked sources that provide proof. Without adequate sourcing, a Halopedia article is useless.

Hmm. I liked it better with just the standard Elite armour, with only subtle differences between ranks. (i.e. more elongated helmet 'fins' for Zealots)

Reach's Ultra Elite armour does look pretty awesome, though.

Check that again; I said Halopedia as a whole, not the content, prove something. It is not proof. The notion of "it does prove something" means it tracks down the changes (or development) of the Halo series. ;)
