Here's a few I (and some other people) came up with:

* In 'My Profile' page, provide a tab link to 'My Threads' page, which is a list of all threads the user has created. Adding posts to favorites gets annoying.

* Decrease amount of threads allowed to be created by a member in 24 hour period to 2 or 3. The most threads I have ever made in one night is two. Any more and it's spam.

* Locked threads are deleted after a 24 hour period. The whole sticky/locked thread thing no longer matters because of the recent update. It's kinda pointless why they stay around. (idea change cont. by Pimp at Sea) This would really help when reading the forums and free up space on the front page, especially on the slower-moving forums like this one.

* Change the preview button to preview/spellcheck. No one ever uses it otherwise, and on the whole the grammar in these forums is awful.

* Add search function. Apparently it's coming Soon (not sure how to make the trademark thing)

* Add karma system (Not my idea). I'm not sure how this would be implemented, possibly a feedback system from moderators only or selected members...? It would help to see a member's status within Bnet, but the only question would be who that information is available to.

* Votes affect topic placement. For say, every five votes contributed to a poll thread, the thread would be bumped up to first page, just like if a post was contributed.

* Moderators in groups should have the same powers as moderators in all of Bnet, with the exception that their powers be confined to that group. For instance, they could blacklist, ban, type in other people's posts, and even change their color. I couldn't really see people abusing the system, and if they did, it's pretty easy to click the 'Leave this group' link. Moderators can't have all the fun. (part of idea cont. by J wak 117)

* Members are given the ability to delete their profiles, and start a new one if they so wish. Their name would be recycled for use by other members.

* (Moderators Only) All members have three chances. Every time a member flames, spams, or shows general disregard for the community, one chance is taken. When all three chances are taken, their account is banned. These chances would be renewed every month.

Discuss your thoughts on these ideas and post any others you have.

I don't know if it's possible, but the ability to create your own group theme. Your ideas are pretty good too.

1. ... Yeah, that's pretty good.

2. Different colours were here before, but they were annoying. Now only moderators/admin have different colours.

3. Good one also.

4. That would make the search function useless!

5. Locked posts are better if we want to show what's wrong for the forum. Sort of like leaving a deer's head on your front lawn. Also, if more than one person is looking out for the thread, they wouldn't get PMed, and that's not good.

6. People wouldn't use it.

7. Soon™.

Here's a few I came up with:

* In 'My Profile' page, provide a tab link to 'My Threads' page, which is a list of all threads the user has created. Copying and Pasting URLs into Word for later access gets annoying.

* Color/Alter in some way edits to post. Any added/edited text should be indicated in some way. It would help with communication.

* Decrease amount of threads allowed to be created by a member in 24 hour period to 2 or 3. The most threads I have ever made in one night is two. Any more and it's spam.

* Any threads that have not be replied to in 30 days should be deleted. I'm sure this would free up a lot of memory.

* Locked posts are deleted instead of just being locked. An auto-mail is sent to the creator of the post so that he knows what happened when he searches for his post. This would really help when reading the forums and free up space on the front page.

* Change the preview button to preview/spellcheck. No one ever uses it otherwise, and on the whole the grammar in these forums is awful.

* Add search function (possible?). This has probably been brought up before, but it would be neat to have a post search function. It would take a lot of work and would probably not be worth it, so this is kinda out to left field.

Discuss your thoughts on these ideas and post any others you have.

The reason mods lock posts is so that they serve as an example. When other people go in, they see why it was locked and don't make the same mistake. Mabye a 24 hour timer? When something is locked, 24 hours later it is auto-deleted? And I'm not sure why they keep all the old threads either, but they do. It's not like we can post in them anymore, and anything past the 3rd or 4th page is usually considered a "dead" thread, and people get yelled at for reviving one.
Also, the 'color" markup tags won't happen. They used to have it but people were posting threads in the same color as the background making their posts hard to read. Also, they were posting in all lime green or neon yellow. It hurt the eyes. Now the mods have a set color which would make it even more of a bad idea, because people would impersonate the mods.

Other then that, I really like all the ideas. Especially the revised preview one. I can see myself using that all the time.

Ya good point with the autodelete in 24 hours thats a good idea. Oh ya i read the search function was comin soon too. I wasn't really too sure about the indicate edit one, kinda out to left field too. Also, if not deleting posts that have not been replied to in 30 days, then delete some of the pages in Zanzi, Flood, and New Mombasa so there's only bout a thousand or so. Seriously, you go to the back pages, and they're all pre-halo 2, which is pointless.

For your number 2 item, I think you meant BUNGIE Moderators and Administrators have different colors. NOT Group Moderators and Administrators. Right?

Thanks, dave

What would happen to our locked and pinned threads?

Besides, after 24 hours all the locked posts would be on another page anyway.

I can't remember all of those ideas. However, I'll reply to what I do remember.

The 24-hour auto-deletion. Not a good idea. Some people make a thread, and come back the next day to see the replies. I could see this idea if it were like 30 days. But alas, this is unnecessary due to the auto-locking of old threads.

Spellcheck. No one would use it.

Search feature. On it's way.

2-3 post limit. I disagree. I have different days. Some days I never make threads. Others, I make just one. And some others, several. On this last part, definitely more than 3.

The 24 hour auto deletion would be for locked but not sticky/locked posts only. And seriously, does anyone use the preview button? at least some people would use the spellcheck button.

They come here; they all come here. How do they find me?

I know someone has put this in at some point, but there should be a karma system so people who are active and friendly get noticed and people who are mean get blacklisted faster

The karma system would be a good idea, but how would it work? Also, locked posts may not stay on the front page for long in the faster moving forums like New Mombasa and Zanzibar, but in this forum, they stay on the front page for a couple days. All the more reason to delete them after 24 hours.

the karma system will never work on B.net, the community is not ready for that kind of responsibility yet. We really would need to work hard to keep it afloat

It won't be the same Karma system. Not everyone would be able to give/take Karma. I believe Achronos said it will require very little human interference, or something of the sort.

1: The "My Threads" link.

* Actually, I see that as being a natural (and hopefully planned) part of the search feature. It would simply be a pre-written search for the member's previous (or recent) postings.

2: Decrease amount of threads allowed to be created by a member.

* I could see that as possibly a standard user level setting that gets increased by the planned Karma system. Members with high karma would already know that quality over-rules quantity, and as such, they would be trusted/rewarded with the ability to create more threads if they felt the need.

3: Any threads that have not be replied to in 30 days should be deleted.

* You mentioned this freeing up memory. I don't believe that would really have any effect as the auto-lock feature means that they do not have to be re-indexed like active threads. Personally, I don't like the idea that Bungie.Net history (trivial as it may or may not be) could be deleted. It's mostly a matter of storage space and text threads are not that large.

4: Locked threads are deleted after a 24 hour period with the exception of stickied and locked threads.

* Same response as above. History is just that. What happens today is important today, but there are some good discussions that deserve more than being axed automatically.

5: Change the preview button to preview/spellcheck.

* I spell-check and then preview. I use a spell-check that is integrated with my browser. Having to send and then perform a server-side spell-check would be a load on the servers and bandwidth that is better resolved by having the members use their own local spell-check.

6: Add search function.

* And if everything is deleted? What is there to search? *grin* It is coming, and I am really looking forward to it.
All right, I admit, I am a bit of a megalomaniac when in comes to deleting useless stuff (you won't find a file on my computer that doesn't get used), so I get your point and have taken out the delete when no reply within 30 days idea. I've added another idea that has to do with polls, check it out. And I added the Karma system idea, even though it isn't mine. So about this Karma system, how exactly would it work?

And seriously, does anyone use the preview button? at least some people would use the spellcheck button.
I always preview my post before submitting it. Although a spelling checker might be beneficial to a lot of people, I'd rather whip the dictionary out and look it up.

I'm gitting much smearter betause of it too.
