Subject: How many longswords a cruiser can hold?/Longswords size retconned?

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

So I have two questions:

According to the existing canon, longswords are pretty big, so how many can a marathon/halcyon class cruiser can hold?

And the second thing: In the new video about Tempest, there is crashed ship that looks a lot like longsword, but is a lot smaller. So, retcon, different model (Halopedia said earlier C99-something, opposed to the current GA-TL1) or a different ship? Your thoughts?

EDIT: Better look at the longsword

EDIT2: "Longswords" size compared to a SPARTAN. Credit goes for A 3 Legged Goat (BTW, I just found this. Don't tell him. Or tell if you want. I don't care.)

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

GROSSMAN: Do you think of the Culture as a utopia? Would you live in it, if you could?

BANKS: Good grief yes, to both! What's not to like? ...Well, unless you're actually a fascist or a power junkie or sincerely believe that money rather than happiness is what really matters in life. And even people with those bizarre beliefs are catered for in the Culture, albeit in extreme-immersion VR environments.

Could be a trashed up Shortsword? Looks remarkably similar though...

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

Looks like just a rock to me.

But Longswords look to me like the size of a B-2 Stealth Bomber.

Why the UNSC would utilize such a huge fighter in the first place is beyond me anyway. I mean it has a FIVE man crew, one is dedicated JUST to OPS. And that thing has a main armament of a 110mm cannon...I mean, thats larger than the main gun of an M1 Abrams.

Shortswords are pretty small. Take a look at the one on Sandtrap to see what I mean.

Actually, an Abrams main weapon is a 120mm.
You're also missing out a crucial factor of the Longsword's armament - it is not only armed with 120mm guns, but that 110 you mentioned is a rotary gun. Yes, imagine the warthog's rotary cannon but instead of .50cal, it's a 110mm.

The thing is so large, because it's not just a fighter and interceptor versus other single ships, but it is also designed to directly attack enemy capital ships. Hence the ludicrous 110 rotary gun.
After all, a pair of them bombed one of Regret's Assault Carriers in Halo 2 to blow a hole in the top so Chief could 'give them back their bomb'.

OT: You get a better view at 5:45 or so. It looks like a scale model of a Longsword, but I'm thinking F-99 Wombat due to the small size. Too small to be a Shortsword.

What a waste....

Shortswords look pretty small in Halo Wars, and I don't think we've seen one outside of that...

And it can't be a Wombat, mainly because the Wombats are used on human planets, and also because the wing shapes are different. The F-99 kinda looks like a cross between those things on Bespin in star wars and a UACV. The shortsword is a big triangle.

Actually it was the other carrier. Regret was already on the ground.

Added to the OP. And checking that, it looks identical to the other longswords in Reach.

BTW, What about the first question? How many Longswords cruiser can hold?

And Reach makes it pretty clear that Longswords can beat Corvettes alone.

One of his carriers. I almost made the mistake of calling it Regret's Carrier, but I had clarified it was only one of the ships of his fleet.

Well, We know that PoA held at least 6 Longswords (3 on each side), and Chief's Longsword was launched out of 'bay 7' at the end of CE, so that brings it up to at least 7.

<3 Auntie Dot

The engines of the ship in the video are clearly different from the ones of the Shortsword, the profile of the Ship is also clearly distint from the F-99.

On the other hand, it´s quite similar to a Longsword, perhaps it´s a modified Dronesque Longsword.

It looks like a good size to me. It may just be perspective that makes it look so much smaller. and half of it is underground

Updated OP with size comparison. It's actually bigger I thought it would be, but it's still small.

  • 11.30.2010 6:22 AM PDT

i think its definately a longsword, the shape is right and the wing has been pushed back by the crash, the other half of the must be buried or destroyed (maybe by weapons fire, crashed for a reason..) but its definately the same model as a longsword. could be science fiction games/writers stupidity with scale and changing it however they see fit..?

Maybe. I checked halopedia (yes, halopedia) page of the longsword, more accurately the comments section, and there was person saying that even the CE longsword wasn't 64 meters wide/long/not sure which.

  • 11.30.2010 6:53 AM PDT

problem for me is that would make the longsword have a greater wingspan than a boeing 777, though its not impossible. not sure how big that aircraft is based on the picture, but it looks identical to a longsword. though its worth noting that throughout the halo games, the longsword has always seemed like a large fighter so its possible the size is accurate.

yeah after closer looks at the picture and comparing it to other longswords im gonna go and say it is definately a longsword, note the door at the bottom of the picture on the side of the longsword fuselage, would guess that the spartan in the picture could fit inside that door, say the spartan is the size of jorge (who as far as i know is the biggest spartan, he is 2.24 metres tall), and the door would be about 1/12th the length of the wing which would make the wing around 26.88 metres long, with two wings and the fuselage (which i think is around 1/3.5 the length of the wing), would put the total width at around 61.44 metres which is close to the size of a longsword, though these numbers are very rough so could be wrong and working on the assumption that the longsword is heavily buckled from impact. though personally i think the scale is messed up.

Well, atleast here it's pretty big.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

It does look like a Shortsword, but those are Ensembles creation, and so far Bungie hasent added anything from Halo Wars into their own games.

So it probably is the Wombat. And there is no reason why it couldint be. In ODST they are shown as unmaned assault/recon units, thanks to their incorporated cameras.
