What a waste....

I mean, the UNSC just took out 300 ships that were about to help them in a few days... and were it not for the bomb, the remainder of the fleet wouldn't have killed that battle group on Onyx, humans and Elites would then ally and both have lots of Forerunner tech, easily wiping out the Brutes instead of the long drawn out fight on the Ark.

Well in the long run, yeah it probably did more bad than good, but at the time it was a massive victory.

I don't know, Imperial Admiral Xytan seemed like he wanted the humans dead no matter what and he would have had total command.

Him dying let the more lenient, understand R'tas take command and ally with the humans.

This. Had it not been for the NOVA Xytan would of still been in command and would of most likely attempted to fight both the loyalists and the Humans.

Rtas was down 300 ships, and since he was friends with the Arbiter and more understanding(and badass) he allied his forces with the humans.

We really don't know, maybe Xytan would change his mind about humans once the Arbiter gave 343 GS's message to him. Or maybe it would have been too late by then, because he was supposed to be the Covenant's best strategist with the largest fleet of them all. He may have wiped out both the Brutes and Humanity before he got the message.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I doubt Xytan would listen to Thel, for he was a disgraced leader anyway.

Also, one of the main reasons the Sangheili joined with the humans was to save their own skin. After losing so many ships at Joyous Exultation they needed an ally to fight with, otherwise they'd have been wiped out by the Covenant Loyalists.

The aribter is still the aribter he would have had to listned to him, or face him in a duel, and we both know arby is badass.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

It all boils down to whether Xytan would have listened to 343 GS and the Arbiter, or whether he pulled a Tartarus. Judging by his megalomania and blind faith in the Forerunners it would not surprise me if it was the latter.

Thel was a disgraced commander who was probably known at the time for the biggest failure in Covenant history. Then we have Xytan, who apparently has never lost in battle, and who was sent away as the Prophets felt that he was so popular with the Sangheili that he could potentially usurp them. Who do you think the masses would follow?

There would also have been no need to ally with Humanity. The Sangheili had something like 3 times more ships and resources than the Loyalists had. The NOVA wiped out 60% of their forces instantly. They did not ally with Humanity out of learning the truth or atonement, but out of personal gain.

The source of the Arbiter's power was in being the will of Prophets. Their will does not hold very much weight now. As for a duel; Xytan is like 11' tall, Thel is like 7'8" or something.

I have never understood why Xytan was so randomly tall like that anyway.

I always thought it was his holo-image that was 11 feet tall, and he was normal sized. I'll go back and check today.

What a waste....

Actually, I think he was the one who was 11 feet tall. His hologram was some thirty meters.

OT: That would make more sense that he would just not care and begin to glass everything :/.

But, we don't know if he would continue to focus on the Brutes or focus on humanity. If I were him, the Brutes were the bigger threat.

I remember reading that he wore shoes and an ornate headpiece that made him a couple of feet taller.

Anyway, I don't think it would have mattered. Xytan was essentially the zealot's zealot; he probably would've dismissed what Guilty Spark had to say in the same fashion Regret did Mendicant Bias in Contact Harvest, that the AI had been corrupted.

Off topic, but I always found it funny that Regret openly accepted the possibility that one of their Oracles could be tampered with and corrupted, given their religious significance.
