It is the least Microsoft can do to it's loyal fans over those years it was on XBL. It must also allow online play! If only one game from the original xbox were to be backward compadible it must be H2!

Halo 2 for Life!

Rather play it the way it was ment to be played on XBL (when XBL was actually good). When H2 was ported to the PC it was not well done. It is not true H2.

If you like H2 PC you should join the discussion the forum involving the PC versions of H2 and H1.

H2 will be back eventually anyways why postpone what will occur. If they do make a new system they should make right their mistake of removing H2 from online play.

I see no reason why the new system should be backward compatible with all xbox games ever. I mean we have the technology, and making it online playable, hasn't happened, not because of our technology limitations but because of some other reason. Laziness (by Microsoft), probably lol.

Reason most likely came down to wanting turn over and to make the same game twice, to allow for new profits or something silly like this. Short term profits I might add, long term doesn't look so good if they show such lack of loyalty in my opinion. They treat us as if we do not have a memory, as if we can't remember that same game from the first xbox or something (repackaged and lame).

I've said it many times but it's a shame how they are operating.

Dont get me started on bungie, but bungie hasn't created a good game since H2 (a bunch of average and below average games). They also haven't been fighting publicly to have H2 be online, and they also aren't making games like H2 anymore (newer games are more like COD and are not of my taste, also other flaws are to numerious to list).

Seems someone has an old case of obsession, can you accept the death of Halo 2 now?

XBConnect
Xlink Kai
Halo 2 Vista

are always going to be the only solutions. :D

No, he can't.

And neither can I. I think we should fight for our case and try to make our dreams come true! And that's definitely not helping. Bungie listens to their fans, and while they won't make any more Halo games, they still have the power to make Microsoft or 343 Industries port Halo 2 to the newer XBL system. Simply accepting the possible death of the game will never get it back, while trying to get it back might actually get it back.

Xbox Connect and Xlink are simply not the same good experience. There's almost nobody online except the mexicans on Xlink playing MLG all the time (and I can no longer play there because of my router being incompatible with my modem - and the router has been VERY expensive!), and Vista is not the same either. While Halo CE is an awesome port with an awesome (but almost dead) community, the Halo 2 port is unacceptable and definitely not the same feeling and fun.

Not trying to flame, but I'm rather begging you to join us in our quest for Halo 2.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

It won't happen. Take off your nostaliga goggles, and see that it won't happen. And if it did, things would be changed, and it would be ruined forever, because it wouldn't be 100% same. Pokemon HGSS was ruined forever, for example, when a different girl was in the game instead of the original one from Crystal.

And another thing, nostalgia goggles can make things seem better then they really are. Just look at the Pokemon Anime. People say it "went downhill" after season 1, even though the newest series STILL recycles the same basic plots used in early episodes (which were paper thin). Or the movies, which also blow.

Or h2x's "PERFECT" matchmaking system. If you really played before the shutdown was announced, and didn't just hop in on the 14th just to play 2 or 3 games, you will know that was flawed, as it took forever to matchmake. Halo 3 is currently suffering from the same issue, so you can take off your goggles and try to matchmake in 3.

Halo 2 was good, but not the GODLIKE game some people here made it out to be. I have moved on.

Tl;Dr, h2x is dead. Get over it, and move on with life.

I have a mac, so that's not really an option for me.

They could at least add all of the DLC maps to the marketplace.

Unless you have a PowerPC mac, you can install windows on your mac. Either with boot camp or if you have an x64 copy of vista/7, then you can just create a windows partition and instal windows on that without boot camp, since those versions have mac support built in.

BUNGIE AND MICROSOFT FAILS HALO 2 VISTA.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Halo IP isn't so AAA as people think, if it were then explain why
Halo 1 PC + Custom Edition, Halo 2 Xbox, Halo 2 Vista, Halo 3, ODST and soon Halo Reach will all have their support dropped in some way.

Halo 1 PC and Custom Edition

This game, although 7 years, the development support for the game was dropped well before 2009, but luckily sawnose on his own, made 2 last patches, after [I don't know how long] since Gearbox or Bungie dropped support.
Normally PC games have their source codes released for community development, however a company like Microsoft does not have the brains like Valve does.

Halo 2

There really was no reason to take Xbox v1 down, other than business gain, people who were on v1 were really not getting Microsoft enough money keeping this old version on, and taking these offline would've forced people to buy Xbox 360, and other Halo games, increasing their revenue.

Blastacular map pack from certain affinity was the last new thing to ever happen to this game.

The voice codec? was built into the game, so the dashboard update wouldn't have affected it.

Halo 2 Vista

This game was promised to be better than Halo 1 PC, and Halo 2 itself.
The version of this game never arrived, it was non-existant, this thing with the name Halo 2 Vista or Halo 2 PC whatever you call it, was absolute garbage, the Halo 2 Editing Kit was strictly for MP map creation, the most a user could get out of it was BSP creation.

Microsoft hired a bunch of monkeys to port this Xbox 1 game to PC, and only on Windows Vista OS, there was no reason to make it OS exclusive other than to guinea pig users into buying crap software, which didn't even run well at all.

Bungie helped HiredGun by providing them the good bananas, or should I say Bungie doesn't even know what to do Quality Assurance and Design Decisions, thx for a crappy game, when Halo 3 was on the horizon, who cared.

This game was dropped in 8 months (I think), and no one has given a damn ever since.

Halo 3

Halo 3 was a great game, the true milestone for community content.
After 3 map packs, this game was done for.
As it was coming close to 3 years or before Halo Reach, this game was downsized, and it seems they put the matchmaking servers on low priority for this game.

ODST

Microsoft conned people by charging a full price, giving us Campaign, Firefight and all of Halo 3 MP.
Bungie knew there wouldn't be high demand for DLC content for this game, no one really cared for this game.

Reach

After a few map packs, this game will be dead too.

A, AAA IP should be given AAA support, is this really the respect this IP deserves?

Look at Valve, and Half Life and Source engine, all them are supported for ever, if anything Valve deserves Halo. xD

All companies dump support for stuff after a while, but valve supports stuff longer then Bungie or Activision does.

HL1 for example, got a LOT of support during the first few years. Then after Valve switched from WON to Steam, HL1 support mostly dropped off over time with Valve only providing major updates to 1 game: CS 1.6. Play that then any other goldsrc game to see what I mean. GoldSrc also hasn't gotten a mac port yet, even though it uses OpenGL on the PC.

Valve does give a lot of support to the source engine games though. HL2 and CSS got updated to a newer source engine, while Mac/OpenGL ports of them were also made.

You are absolutely correct. Also, I agree with you that the matchmaking system definitely could have been better.

However, when I praise Halo 2 to the skies, I'm not looking through nostalgia goggles. I still play this game VERY often, and I enjoy it SO much! Playing splitscreen games with my friends is still incredibly fun, and while the game might not be fun to play for everyone, this is JUST the right game for me. You're right, the good ol' memories and nostalgia goggles certainly makes many people say it's better than what they truly should say, but at least for me, this game is a true bullseye.

I don't expect more than 0.00001% of the Halo community to feel this way, but Halo 2 will always be the best in my opinion - nostalgia goggles or none ;)

Sorry dude, that would require them to recode Halo 2 so that it is compatible with the new Xbox dashboard. These changes need to be made to the game, not the console.

Instead of being recoded to the new dash (since launch titles for the 360 still work on the kinect dash), it would have to be recoded to the new console. The APIs would change. And the 360 doesn't use the same CPU. Instead of using a normal x86 cpu, it uses an IBM PowerPC cpu.

And the netcode would have to be updated to work with the 360 live. They could do a quick PC Port, but that won't happen unless there is a remake. And then everything would be ruined forever.

Halo 2 for Life!

Backward compadiblity to xbox original would be selling feature for the new system. If you knew H2 was playible over xbox live again if you bought the system, wouldn't you be more likely to buy it?

I would!

Re-coding? They can just have a decoder or somthing to decode all the other games for the xbox original right?
