Why didn't some Forerunners go in the shield worlds like Onyx when they activated the Halo array?

No one knows, maybe the flood launched ambushes at the shield worlds? Or maybe they did, and we just haven't found the shield worlds that they hid in. Some people think that they hid till the flood threat was negated, then left the galaxy for some obscure reason.

Flood knew of the Shield Worlds due to Mendicant Bias and the Flood attacked there.

Who said they didn't?

Its theorized they DID get in and got back out, which would mean they're still alive (more then once I've read in official sources such as the Encyclopedia that the Forerunners left the galaxy, possibly for the "real" Great Journey, a journey of enlightenment.)

In time, the tru7h will be revealed.

A few ideas of my own:

A) The flood knew of the shield worlds and attacked them.

B) They are still hidden within their shield worlds and have yet to come out.

C) They came out of the shield worlds and left the galaxy.

D) They couldn't risk any flood surviving, so they decided not to use the shield worlds and ended their race completely.

I think the first theory is more accurate, at least in the case of Onyx. The sentinels attacked everything, seeking to protect what ever was once there. There were no Forerunners left there however, only some sentinels that survived or were just left there. This could mean the flood overran Onyx, killing all the Forerunners and leaving only some sentinels.

You mean becoming transsentient like the Precursers?

Sorry for double post, but here's an idea.

Maybe they decided to abandon the vast amount of technology they possessed, believing they were not worthy to control the fate of the galaxy, and moved to a small corner of the galaxy to live in Tier 7?

  • 12.02.2010 9:31 PM PDT

but why would they decide to abandon there technology? they could, I guess , have beleived that they were unworthy. But then why leave it behind only to be discovered by another species or species, if they thought themselves unworthy of the technology? And that raises the question that if they did in fact leave their technology behind then what was the reason? the precursor didn't give up their technology, instead they turned it to their advantage by being able to travel between galagies and colonise them. but the forerunner did leave behind the rings. probably the most ambitious project of the halo universe along with their sheild worlds which I think is more then enough evidence to say that they where either destroyed by most likely a combined attack by the flood and there own people (as rebels) caused by the attack of the flood or there own technology, or they left before their species could be exterminated and live as you said in a very well hidden corner of the galaxy waiting for the forces that pushed them there to subside.

more or less, it is stated in the terminals Diadect wanted to "follow in their footsteps"

It only seems natural. Foreunner were interested in Precursor and probably would want to be like them. Just like humans will probably want to become as good as, if not better than the Forerunner later down the line as Reclaimers.

I heard some where that the remaining Forunners exiled them selves from the Galaxy.

its an avenue thats never been explored so far in the halo universe, so as of this moment the fate of the forerunner race is just a mystery, maybe its best if it stays that way, sometimes things are better left uncovered...

i think it would be very good to leave it alone and let us wonder what happened and maybe hint at it

Does that mean there could be flood in the shield world that Halsey and the spartans are in?

seventh coloumn pride

i wish somone would just make a book exolaining about the forerunners

  • 12.09.2010 5:45 PM PDT

I hope they eventually explain what happens to Halsey and the Spartan III's inside the Onyx shield world.
I figure that the shield worlds are Dyson spheres, meaning they have way more than 10x the surface area of a normal planet.
So maybe there are Forerunners inside the Onyx, but the shield world is so big - Halsey hasn't found them yet...

it is possible but how hard could a city be to find? especially if its home to a few billion people.

With a 1 AU radius, it should have over 550 million times the surface area of earth.

There could easily be hundreds of billions or trillions and you may have to walk for a very long time to find them.

My Screenshots / My Group / Remember to follow the rules or you will get trapped in a box.

They didn't have enough time.

their still in their at the end of halo 3 (given they had enough food to survive) so i'd say thats a pretty good amount of time to cover a large area if they don't stop moving

Bobcast is paid in MILF blind dates.

I thought some of the slipspace pods that didn't contain Team Katana were preserved Forerunners.
