People who blame video games for violence often are morons.

If Children+Games=Violence and Adults+Games=Violence, then by the transitive property, Children=Adults. But since that that contradicts the given, the assumption is false. Therefore, video games are not violent.

on the subject of teen violence and school shootings, its not the games fault. its mainly the kids and parents fault. when the Columbine shootings happened, the media pinned blame on GTA and Doom, but conveniently overlooked the question of how 16-17 year olds had access to M16A2 military assault rifles and 12 gauge tactical shotguns. the games had nothing to do with it. the parents were to blame for not having their guns locked up and why these kids never went to rehab or counseling for their problems

Video games can trigger violent behavior, but in the end the people who commit the crimes are responsible for their actions. You can't use video games as an excuse for your own violence.

They use video games as a way out of their own mistakes because it is still a pretty new media.

Kids and parents are always looking for the easy way out. And those sonsa-blam!-es at D.C. are always looking for an excuse to kill gaming for good. It's amazing how stupid these parents are. "Oh yes, let's buy our child a game wear the only way to win is to sleep with hookers, stab, murder and massacre thousands of police/civilians, and drive insanely fast in cars and run over any poor bastard in their way. Then let's blame it on the game when our dumb -blam!- child decides to try a stupid stunt like this!" -blam!- dumbasses.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

Every time someone gets killed over a video game or commits a video game like crime, some person in Washington decides that video games are the ultimate evil and tries to raise a fuss and get them banned. Video games don't cause violence. Criminals do.

Let's save this thread from being locked and stop talking about politics, since even though you say "no political fights please", you are starting to spread one.

If vidoe games cause violence then so do pencils. Pencils can be shoved in some one's ear to kill them. Let me give you this scenario:

Some one watches Looney Tunes and decides that they can jump off a clif and live.

My point is that anything can cause violence if the peron is very young or mentally instable. Other than that they don't cause violence. People have been trying to blame video games for the apocolipes since the days of Atari. Parents don't like video games because their kids play them so much that they hardly ever do anything else. So they make up exscuses to stop their kids from playing them. Just like the old "If you keep doing that your face will stay that way." Parents say that because the stupid faces the kids make are annoying. The same goes for video games. They will look for any excuse to stop kids from playing them. Movies cause much more violence than video games but it's not as much of a problem because parents watch movies.

A general lack of mental well being is often all it takes -- I am a videogame fanatic so read the next few lines carefully...

Videogames can indeed trigger violence. Videogames cannot, however, directly cause violent actions - at best they can offer circumstance.

Oftentimes when a violent act occurs in people in the age range of 12-21, the ensuing media frenzy looks for any media they can to attribute it to... Nevermind that since I started watching the news regularly, I see more violence on that than on COPS...

Nevertheless the News Media looks for anything to blame that will protect their own interests and boost their ratings... Nevermind that these are the same media that go to E3 and ask where the "Pac-Man" booth is...

It's childish and amoral to speed blame for an act of violence to anything without understanding it completely. You usually get to the point where someone mentions a game somewhat linked to the investigation and News media jumps all over the connection, what about the mental condition of the offender? That takes a back seat to the ratings.

In my opionion it's utter jealosy -- News used to be the #1 media in the world, now they are taking a back seat to the internet (as it becomes cheaper and easier to obtain service to the Web) and the new #1 media in the world Videogames...

It's an unfair stigma that the gaming companies must bear unless or until the news media can regain their crown...

The state of things sickens me -- I have a lot of games -- No record to be sure - but likely more than 99% of you on this forum -- I've been playing videogames since I was 3. I played everything from Bad Dudes, Operation Wolf, and C.A.B.A.L., to Mortal Kombat, Quake and Doom 3. I have more than 1700 games in my personal collection...

If videogames caused violence - there would be a path of mayhem across the Eastern Seaboard.

And my mugshot in every Post Office from here to Hong Kong... (They'd never catch me -- I played Harvest Moon so I know how to live off the land.)
