Video games do not cause violence. Oh sure some wackos may play manhunt or something like it and then get ideas to go out and kill someone but in the end it is not videogames that cause violence. It's the same thing with guns, guns don't kill people, people kill people. Someone has to load the gun, someone has to hold the gun and some one has to pull the -blam!- trigger or commit some action that causes the bullet to be fired. Normal people can handle violent video games because they understand that they are not real, just like normal people can handle guns because they know how to handle them properly or at least know better than to point it at someone just for the hell of it and pull the trigger for no reason what so ever other than to see what it will do or to try to score points in what they think is a video game. Some people just can't handle these sorts of things, for instance a murderer killed a family after he broke into their house and stole the handgun collection that the father had. The only reason he killed the people was because he enjoyed the feeling of being God, being able to take someone's life so easily. To decide who dies and who lives.
Therefore I must say no no and no again, video games do NOT cause violence PEOPLE cause violence. It's just that society often chooses to blame the many for what only a few have actually done.

I personally don't think games cause people to be violent.

But something interesting, notice how it's always GTA that seems to be mentioned? Every time someone blames games, they blame it on playing too much GTA.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

Video games don't cause violence, stupid people do!

On a more serious note, there are far too many influences in our society to blame video games entirely. The main fault ALWAYS, and I repeat ALWAYS lies with the person. Unless they are under six.
