I'm not saying I believe the rumors, but I just found this article:

http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/708930/Halo-Remake-Rumors-R age.html

tl;dr there's talk of a remake of the original Halo on the Reach engine. What do you think about this? Would you shell out the cash?

My opinion (if you care):

I think a remake would be very cool. The new graphics alone would be great. Some things that would turn me onto it would be the new weapons in the original story line (I'd remove Lasers and make the rocket launcher able to lock on all types of vehicles instead). Armor abilities would be cool but I'd limit their use in campaign in order to phase out for Halo 2. In the story they could also explain why the Covenant have no brutes on Halo (because they can't touch the sacred ring). Mentioning Noble Team helping make your journey possible would also be a nice tribute to Reach.

The way I see it, Reach has begun the saga anew. I don't mean that they should re-do all the games, just that it brought halo back to its roots from the less believable aspects of Halo 2 and 3. Doing this for the original Halo would be a tribute in my eyes, but I could easily understand the other side of the argument that a remake is pointless.

Bungie wont make anymore Halo games. Microsoft will make some remakes and halo 4.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Of course they'd wreck it. Combat Evolved as a remake would be mundane compared to the expectations we have now. The game would have to rely really, really heavily on re-invented encounters to make the game anything more than just a re-release in a new engine.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went and retconned some new content into it, though, and that would be really, really stupid. I say leave old classics that have such establishment alone. CE was at the helm of the XBOX experience, which is why it was so amazing for most people. Recreating that feeling has been a huge challenge for Bungie, and one that they never truly ever could. That age of hype is gone, and I think 343i needs to recognize this and just continue to evolve the franchise.

Chronicles would have been a turning point in the franchise's evolution if it had come to fruition, for example; expanding it into an interactive storytelling environment. They've been doing a fair, albeit risky job of this via Waypoint thus far. Recycling old content for nostalgic value should be held off for awhile if this franchise is to be as large as they apparently think it is going to be after ten years.

Exact science, is not an exact science.

Seems fair enough, would lead nicely into a new game and we could certainly do with an episodic approach to Halo.

But as always the proof will be in the pudding!

Instead of making remakes, Microsoft should re-write Hal:CE and Halo 2 onto 360 disks so that we can play them online again!

  • 12.02.2010 7:12 AM PDT

They should remake it, and include Custom Edition for the 360!

Change anything: people b****
Change nothing: what's the ****ing point
Better graphics: The environments are all box canyons and corridors, no point
Online multiplayer: Reach is better

so no on all counts

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I'm still looking for that Final Fantasy VII remake.

I don't want a remake of Halo:CE, but if I one day hear the news that it is going to be done, then I want it to be a more canon-faithful version of the game, where 10 MA5B bullets will end an Elites life.
