Is there no way at all to be email notified about updates to threads you post in?

It's tiring having to bookmark every thread i'm interested in and keep visiting.

Or am I missing something really obvious?

Twitter | Nothing

To my knowledge there is no such thing on bungie.net .

Do you know how many PMs you would get if a PM is sent out everytime a thread you participate in changes? If it's any consolation, a search feature is Coming Soon™.

At this time there is no such system, but similar things, such as a "Threads Posted In" feature, have all been suggested before. As dmbfan said a Search Feature is in the works. On a side note, the way Achronos describes the Karma system makes it sound like more than just a way of ranking people and decided who is good or not on these forums to me, to me is sounds like he is building a completely different system on which to run Bungie.net by, not just the ranks and such. If I am correct in this we will see a few new features added when this is released and this might just be one of them, along with the search feature maybe.

dmbfan - Without meaning any offence, pretty much every other forum on the net manages it. Most of the ones based on standard forum engines send you an email along the lines of "the thread you subscribed to has been updated, you will not receive any more email updates for this thread until you have logged in and viewed it".

On the other hand, i'm happy to have to check every thread individually if it means that one more developer can spend time on Bungie's "Next Project"™ :)

And who is that one more developer then? The ninjas are not developers you know lol...

Yeah most forums software has things like that such as ipb, vbulletin, phpbb etc... but bungie use something different...

  • 11.15.2005 10:03 AM PDT

Do the other forums have as many members of Bungie.net? I mean, if you don't contribute to many threads I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem, but there are some people that contribute to dozens a day (I'm sure there are some that contribute to over 50 a day).

All I'm saying is that it would be pretty hectic on our PM system.

No I don't think you get me... the forum I am talking about has 1900 members plus anyway what I mean is you choose ( just before you post in a topic ) wether you want it to send you e-mails when people reply... it is set to no by default therefore you just need to tick a box and you get an e-mail whenever anyone replies...

  • 11.15.2005 10:15 AM PDT

Ah, NOW I understand. That's actually a good idea.

I guess everybody now realizes I don't visit any other forums...

Yes, it woudl be a great feature to add, but dmbfan was right when he said it would be hectic on our System. Bungie.net has something like 100,000+ members on daily, not on period, on daily, even more on weeekly. Thats one fo the reasons it is so hard for Bungie to have some of these features that are so simple a thing in other Forums. Bungie.net has 50x the members, so that means 50x the work load ofr the servers, and I just dont think they can handle that.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Patience, young one. You forget Bungie ways.

Play nice? No bad jokes?

Speaking of which, by "bad jokes" do they mean jokes that could easily offend, or do they mean plain crappy jokes?

For example...

"Whi did teh chikecn crss the raod?"

"I have no idea, why did the chicken cross the road?"

"2 get 2 th ohter side LOLOL ROFL"

I believe it applies to both. I've seen peoples' threads get locked for making really crappy jokes and others blacklisted for jokes that were just plain wrong.

most sites have a my assistant thing, not an email system, and dmbfan is right, you would receive like fifty a day, and that would be 50 x x

I had the feature turned on in the old site. Bad mistake. In a little over 2 months, i had racked up 1000 emails.
