Some of you may already know this but in the Turkish Empire there were two types of soldiers 1. the regulars or Gazi's who would represent the Marines and 2. Janissaries who an advanced group of soldiers who were taken at a young age and trained to be great soldiers and ambassadors who would represent the Spartans in Halo

Or they could be based off the actual Spartans...

They are called Spartans because of the soldiers from the Greek state of Sparta that were born soldiers yes
1.Those were the only Spartan soldiers
2.The fact that the Turks had a regular fighting class and a super soldier type group makes it closer to the story of Halo
I will admit though the Spartans and Athenians taking on a much larger force in the Persian does make it like the Humans and Covenant

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

Because the Janissaries were the only elite force in history.

They were based off of Greek Spartans. That's all there is to it. It's blatantly stated in the books as well. There is no reference to Janissaries or any other elite force of any other culture because Spartans of Halo are based on Spartans.

Interesting facts tho. I remember training Janissarys in some old RTS I played back in the days.

well said. The Spartans were the Greek super soldiers. Dr Halsey said in her diary they chose the name Spartans because they mad the most in common with the project soldiers. Plus there were 300 children chosen.
