In Reach, the ODST shoulder armor's description says that many aspects of the MJOLNIR program were implemented into the ODST Program. Or something like that.

If that is true, and ODST Armor is based off of the original SPARTAN armor, what did ODSTs wear before the Mk. IV was invented? Or was it the same thing, and just used some of the same aspects as the MJOLNIR after it was released?

To me it seems like the ODSTs wore some sort of Marine-like armor, only heavier-duty. Then the MJOLNIR Armor was invented and the UNSC created a toned-down version of it and gave it to the ODSTs. Their armor has almost the same HUD, although that could just be a software update. They also seem to use the same base plates for their armor too, just lighter versions of the SPARTAN armor.

Anyone else feel like this?

I'm pretty sure ODST armor was around before MJLONIR so it is possible that it went through upgrades when the success of MJLONIR was noticed or it was simply saying that ODST armor is compatible with MJLONIR armor

im feelin ya, odst's probably were just the same as marines before, but were more expensive, and more highly trained, and as the new armor came out odst's got a special "we're the 2nd best soldiers" armor, spartans wear it to (halo reach). it's probably just as strong, its just that odst soldiers do not have and aren't going to have sheilds like spartans. They're not ment to have it.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

I think it refers to new materials.

Probably it's something like this where the projects lead to develop in standard balistic armour as the Mk. IV didn't have shields so these new materials were implimented in ODST armour to make it lighter and stronger.
