Subject: What Exactly Are Elites?

How'd you find me?

This a question about what exactly elites are. I think they're theropods(dinosaurs) but so people think otherwise. Does anyone know what exactly they are? The books were never too specific about it, and I've wondered for a while.

On another note: if elites are indeed theropods, that would mean they lay eggs, yes?

I doubt that there are any exact parallels between elites and the types of lifeforms that have evolved on Earth.

they do show reptilian traits though, and they are very dino-like

That is true, but grunts have been categorized as anthropods.

So elites do lay eggs! I win!

I wonder what an Elite omelette would taste like...

They are saurians according to the Halo: Reach info.

Yes, indeed, they're dark disciples of Sauron himself... Oh, wait...

Definitely different than normal eggs. And probably a different color.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Like creatures of Earth, they seem to have developed reptilian like traits, but that is not to say they are reptiles.

Because they're not from Earth, we don't know what they are. They're bipedal (Two-feet) reptilian carnivores.

  • 12.04.2010 3:18 PM PDT

I don't care. I really don't.

They're not. The term "saurian" is a misnomer; it simply describes their physical appearance and not heir actual categorization within the animal kingodm, becuase they aren't in the animal kingodm as they are aliens, and can't be called theropods becuase that's a categorization terms for a group of Dinsaurians, which the Sangeili are not.
Arthropod is a different kind of term, and doesn't refer to a specific group in Earth's animal kingdom, but a term that describes an organism, terran or otherwise, which lacks a backbone and/or bones.

So, Elites are not therapods as they can't be or they would literally be dinosaurs from Earth itself. They're aliens, and have no Earth relations or parallels; compared to an Elite, Gangrene is your first cousin. Literally.

P.S. I doubt they lay eggs, but I could be wrong.

From an artistic view point, they are obviously reptiles. However, the chances of a species from an entirely different region of the Galaxy evolving to fit into one of our pre-defined classifications are extremely thin.

In fact, them evolving into anything that we would even remotely recognize as life is also an extremely unlikely occurrence. But, we have to fight them, so they have to have a form that we can recognize and relate to as enemies. It is because of this that I think we should look not to a specific biological classification grounded in reality, and instead accept the simple answer that they are big lizards.

Brilliant.

Well I suppose they're evolved reptiles of some sorts, their skin does look quite, reptile-ey. But they're so much cooler, as for eggs, seems plausable.

  • 12.05.2010 4:21 AM PDT

Reptilian-theropods with a saurian exterior outlook (no relation though) I think.

  • 12.05.2010 10:27 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Saurian creatures with oddly developed mouths.

  • 12.05.2010 10:29 AM PDT

So they do have cloaca's...

Thanks to all of you!

They're aliens. For all we know, although unlikely as it is, they could have antigravitational kids that are fetilized like salmon eggs (laid then sperm fertilize outside the females body, so no mating) then float up into the upper atmosphere and collect nutrients unitl puberty, then float down to start their trainging as warriors!! We don't know how they work, and we shouldn't assume.

Even though they were imagined: They. Still. Are. Aliens.
Why can't people understand that? Do people expect aliens to make sense, and do people think other people can't create realistic possibilities for aliens that don't have a real life analog?

  • 12.05.2010 2:00 PM PDT

I do not classify them as Saurian. The true saurians of the Covenant are Jackals and Skirmishers.

  • 12.05.2010 2:04 PM PDT

Elites...

are...

peeplez!

  • 12.05.2010 2:23 PM PDT

An assassin will always carry on, even after death.

I think that they are scaly, 4 jawed mammels.

That wouldn't happen because Bungie does their best to make well thought out, cohesive stories and cannon, and aliens with gravity-defying eggs are anything but well thought out and cohesive.
