I am a monument to all your sins

it should fall between warrent officer and captain, but its not there. we know it exists in the UNSC Army because Noble Six holds that rank. Its not a big deal, and Im not upset about it or anything, but why? its not like it was to save space since they added all those fake ranks towards the end.

Actually, no it isn't, not at all in fact. A Warrant Officer is more like a senior enlisted person than an officer.

If Bungie wanted to make sense they should have removed Commander (it's a Navy rank, why would they put it in with Army?) and added Lieutenant.

Quite so. I think they did what Ron Moore did with Battlestar Galactica. They disregarded the current U.S. military rank structure and created their own to better suit the story and its characters.

Basically, they liked the sound of Commander more than Lieutenant Colonel, even though the S-IIIs are Army.

Number 1)
There is no army recognized in any halo game. (is there?) There are marines and the navy in halo, no army
By the by the marine core was part of the navy, not the Army

Number 2)
OH and commander is in because ONI(office of NAVAL Inteligence) controls the spartan program...and you are a spartan....:)

Number 30
Warrant officer is a step down from lieutenant...so...idk where you are getting any part of your argument from...

Hope you find out the truthz

I suppose there should be a Lieutenant rank in there if it's army ranks, but it seems to be a blend of Navy/Marine and Army. (Warrant Officers are not actually commissioned officers)

Fix'd.

6 is a Navy Lieutenant, not an Army Lieutenant - presumably, Warrant Officer is used to replace Lieutenant for some inexplicable reason.Posted by: SAM DA COOL MAN

All of Noble Team's ranks are Navy. This is not explained, for they are commanded normally by the Army and currently under the command of Army Colonel Holland. The Commander and Warrant Officer ranks from MM are Navy ranks, but every other MM rank is Army.

Refer above into my post - Warrant Officer is roughly equal to Sergeant Major

1. Incorrect, Warrant Officer is an officer rank, not an enlisted rank.

2. Incorrect, there are marines seen both on the level LNoS and on The Pillar of Autumn.

3. All spartans are navy, and they are all outranked by an army colonel. The matchmaking system combines and skips ranks.

4. Refer to above in post, Warrant Officer is not enlisted.

1. Incorrect, Warrant Officer is an officer rank, not an enlisted rank.
The table on the right says otherwise.
A Warrant Officer to an Officer seems to be what an Honorary Doctorate is to a University Degree.

2. Incorrect, there are marines seen both on the level LNoS and on The Pillar of Autumn. The Majority of troops seen in Reach were UNSC Army. I was more correct than Sam was.

3. All spartans are navy, and they are all outranked by an army colonel. The matchmaking system combines and skips ranks.SPARTAN-III units are UNSC Army, the project was overseen by Colonel Ackerson.
Noble Team's ranks are all Navy.
Aside from Commander, Warrant Officer, all MM ranks are Army.

1. Using your own source against you.

2. I never said he was right.

3. This says otherwise. Also, many army ranks are shared in the marine corps so the could be argued to be that too, so lets just say MM ranks are wrong and leave it at that.

Hence, Warrant Officer 2 John Doe = Mr. Doe and First Lieutenant John Doe = Sir

Apologies, I thought the one I linked was a general cover-all for Warrant Officer.

Still doesn't explain Noble's involvement with Holland, since he is an Army colonel with no affiliation with ONI whatsoever. In fact, Noble have to be told they are under the command of ONI, when Halsey requisitions them.

Ya I was wrong about the Army thing...I didnt know....but for everything else....I am correct...see above to see why Lieutant ~= Warrant officer...and if you open your eyes you will see that some ranks cross over...please open your eyes...

That is a good question as to why Holland was in command, I suppose he must have been 'employed' by ONI too.

Yet as I said, Noble were not under command of ONI whilst serving under Holland. They were massively interacting with the UNSC Army whilst on Reach hence their armouries and their vehicle use.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

My Lord there are some dense people in this thread.

Let me make this clear. I am a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy, I have a brother who is a Petty Officer 1st Class in the United States Navy, I have two cousins who are a Warrant Officer 3rd Class and a Master Sergeant respectively.

NAVY
Seaman Recruit
Seaman Apprentice
Seaman
PO3C
PO2C
PO1C
Chief Petty Officer
Senior Chief
Master Chief
WARRANT OFFICERS
Warrant Officer 1st Class WO1
Warrant Officer 2nd Class WO2
Warrant Officer 3rd Class WO3
Warrant Officer 4th Class WO4
Ensign
Lieutenant(JG)
Lieutenant
Lt. Commander
Commander
Captain

All branches of the military use Warrant Officers except the Air Force. All Warrant Officers are below all Officer ratings. Warrant Officers are generally always MPs or Masters at Arms, they are given their rate so they have seniority over the enlistedmen they are commanding. Officers always have their say over them.

That being said, some of these arguments are hilarious. The Army has no "commanders" they have Majors. Marines generally by the Army rank.
