Just finished it. I'm not quite as canon-savvy as a lot of you, I'm sure, so I just had a question. I know what happens to just about everyone in the story after the book.

I was wondering if there was any further insight into what happens to Gray Team after the book. All I know is that they received their prowler and went further into Covenant-controlled space. Have there been any further explanations? Thanks.

Nope. All we know is that as of early November 2552 they've been missing for over a year.

-Shadow Chief 3

Nope. Probably open ended for possible future expansion is all.

That's kind of what I figured.

Where did it say they went missing in November 2552, poster above quoted dude?

Ghosts of Onyx
November 3, 2552

page 145:

Were the three of them on this ship the last Spartans? Fred wondered if John was dead.
Or Kelly. There was no mention of Kelly in Dr. Halsey's communique. And what had ever
happened to Gray Team on a mission far outside the confines of UNSC space, now missing
for over a year? He would never voice these worries. It might sap Blue Team's morale. But
for the first time, real doubt eroded Fred's confidence. Doubt that John, Kelly, and the others
were alive.

Ah, thanks. I read Ghosts before Cole Protocol. That's probably why I didn't notice. :)

I'm a guy of simple taste, I enjoy dynamite and gunpowder, and gasoline.... you know the thing they have in common? they're cheap.

halo is a billion dollar frachise.... and people like me have invested a lot of cash on games novels and other collectable -blam!-, so basically there will never be a nice clean cut ending, there are always going to be a dozen charecters that are still have unfinished buisness, its just to sucker people into buying the next installment in the story lol

I'm a guy of simple taste, I enjoy dynamite and gunpowder, and gasoline.... you know the thing they have in common? they're cheap.

here are some people with loose ties

jun- he's not in the novels, but you never see him die

jorge- that "bomb" was a slipspace drive, it didnt explode, it launched 1/2 that carrier into slipspace, so he could be alive

hasley- she's in the micro dyson sphere

blue team- same as halsey

cpo mendez- same

katana team- same

the other spartan 3 gamma squad, i forgot which one but there locked in a slipspace capsule
grey team- out causing havock

Master chief- lost in space, orbiting a planet that has god knows what on it

cortana- with the chief possible going rampant

the flood- stuck on the ark, but with enough crashed ships to possible escape, as well at the knowlege to repair them

Srgt johnson- oh yea thats right, i dont think he is really dead! there is a part in First strike where halsey scans his blood to find he has flood dna linked to his, giving him a miraculous regenerative ability, and halos dont kill flood, just their food.... so its possible the blast didnt kill him and he somehow regenerated from his wounds

the arbiter- halo 3 ends with him saying he wants to go home and see that his homeworld is safe, but, in first strike the NOVA bomb is detonated on an elite homeworld, and pretty much glasses it, so he might have diffrent feelings about humanity after that

thats all i can think of but im sure there are more

It was not Sanghellios but Joyous Exultation where the NOVA detonated. The NOVA is the main reason the Sangheilli formed an alliance with UNSC.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I wouldn't mind 343 filling in the Gap that is Gray Team post Cole Protocol.

If anyone was wondering, this was stated in Ghosts of Onyx, just before (IIRC) Blue Team assaults the Cuban Orbital Elevator.

The NOVA decimated most of the remainder of the shattered Sangheili fleet - they thought it was a Brute sneak attack, had they known it was a human weapon, they would have glassed all of Earth without a second thought. The portal, Truth and the Flood be damned

  • 12.05.2010 2:48 AM PDT

dunno about that like, I think the Sangheili have honour. sure the NOVA destroyed most of their fleet but thats exactly what they've been doing for decades to humanity, wiping out their fleet, torching their worlds, mass murdering, so after seeing the error in their ways I don't think they would have torched Earth, not after what they had done to humanity. I think if the franchise gets continued (likely will) the alliance between the Sangheili and Humans will remain, they've been through so much together for it too fall apart, plus the Sangheili have gained a respect for humanity and our defiance in the face of certain destruction. so to sum it up for me, the war between humanity and the Sangheili is over and I think it will stay that way. the remnants of the Covenant could potentially be a problem though, since I doubt they'll be happy about how things turned out so a possible Covenant return is on the cards maybe..!

Yes, but the Halo he was on at the time also was destroyed because it wasn't ready to fire, so unless he can survive in space, he's dead.

i saw srgt johnson die 4 diffrent times in halo CE, plus the legendary ending where he hugs the elite as the autum blows.... hess come back from the dead before, he could do it again : )
