Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

Is the Gauss Rifle comparable to the Gauss Warthog gun? Or is it weaker?

Imagine Gauss Turret you can carry.

You mean the Stanchion(?) Sniper that Johnson uses in Contact Harvest?

I think they are almost identical, but that could be me just making stuff up.

I believe the Stanchion weighs a lot less and fires a smaller round, but I'm not sure.

I belive so too, after all, it can be fitted on to a Hornet. But the armor penetration capabilities are similar, amirite?

Use the Gauss Rifle in Fallout. :)

Just need some Microfusion Cells.

It fires a much smaller round, it's like comparing the warthog gauss cannon to the mass driver in reach. Still, the rounds traveled fast enough to be an extremely effective anti-personnel weapon.

I put the laughter in manslaughter

its a smaller version of it, but the same concept of using a series of electro magnets to propel the round instead of gunpowder or other variations of it.

the rounds are much more powerful in the gauss guns, but are very much more expensive, limited to powersupplies, require precise ammunition, very fragile, and slow to shoot.

Halo is one of the most important part of my life.

From what i now the Gauss Rifle its a lot weaker than the Warthog Gauss... The rifle shots only a small amount of rock, like 2cm or so... the Warthog Gauss shot pieces aorund size of a rock.

Stanchion is >2 metres long, but optimised for hand-held use, firing a 5.4mm ferrous-jacketed Tungsten projectile.
Gauss Cannon (for Warthog) is just over one metre long (a guess - it's less than 2m), and optimised for fitting on the back of a jeep. Fires a 25mm round.Posted by: Hamedolk

In Contact Harvest, the Stanchio fired a round at 15,000m/s. This allowed it to "punch through two of [an office block's] polycrete floors with no adverse affect on its trajectory"

the rifle is a smaller version of the gauss cannon on the warthog, think about it, it can't be the same weapon since the gauss cannon is powered by the warthog, the rifle must have a portable battery pack of sorts therefore smaller and less shots. 15,000 m/s is an impressive muzzle velocity, still not even half the speed of frigate based MACs but even then, fire a round made from tunsgten carbide for example at 15,000 m/s and it will happily penetrate office block floors! where as the warthog mounted gauss cannon would probably shatter the floor! and a MAC, well thats another can of worms altogether..!

had a rifle feature in my own 'work in progress' take on H.G.Wells War of the Worlds and its a two man weapon, so large that its shoulder mounted and the power cells are actually carried on the back of another soldier and connected to the weapon via some seriously bulky cables, could imagine the halo weapon might be similar...? though mine was a railgun, not a gauss weapon.

In time, the tru7h will be revealed.

Heh. I just like in the beginning of Contact Harvest when they have the gauss cannon on the hornet and they fire it through the walls and kill the guy with the bomb. so cool.

But yes. The gauss rifle is basically a slightly scaled down version of the warthog one.

Both the Gauss Cannon and Stanchion Gauss Rifle utilize the same coilgun technology as a MAC, albeit on a smaller scale.

That being said, those three weapons are exceptionally potent weapons, with the MAC being the only non-nuclear weapon shown in the series capable of effectively reducing or destroying a Covenant ship's shields.

KIWIZ RULE THE WORLD!

Its just that nobody knows it yet...

isn't the the sniper we use in halo something similar in the respect its magnetically powered? I'm not sure.
