Today while having a discussion in biology, my teacher brought up that a humans dominant finger trait is six fingers, like so. Example. Maybe when the librarian found the human race she altered their genetics to allow them to use forerunner machines.Hand

Very interesting theory, I hope the Forerunner Saga gives information about the Forerunner Machines.

Positive vibes.

That's actually very interesting. Nice find.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

There was a fair bit of discussion about this 6 years ago when Halo 2 was out. I don't think it's a representation of a Forerunner hand personally, perhaps it simply depics the console as being ambidextrous (it can be activated with the left hand or right hand).

I might also point out that Origins depicts them as having 5 fingers (seen when the Didact activates Halo). However, one may question its reliability as it's from Cortana's perspective.

Is this condition not present in like 1 out of every 500 births or something? How can that be a "dominant trait"?

But we do not have 6 fingers. Unless you are meaning that the condition above is a remnant of Forerunner experimentation?

They do have five fingers, but not because of the scene in Origins. In Halo Wars, Anders unlocked the massive ships, which requires a certain hand pattern.

Ah yes, I remember that.

However, that may simply be because she's a Reclaimer so the map room and Apex console would recognise her as human when she touched it.

Sigh...

Allow me to remind you of the purpose of the Bungie Universe forum, it's to discuss the canon and story of Bungie's games. Generally those of the more intellectual yarn reside here to discuss more intellectual topics, not the morons from the main forums who only care about Armour Lock arguments etc.

If you've nothing useful to say here, bugger off and join the other idiots.

- All "abriged" parodies are hilarious.

All of the toils and hardships and labors of our ancestors produced us. We are their greatest creations; we are humanity's finest products. Mass production seems to have made an impact on quality though...

A trait being dominant does not make it more likely in society it just means that when that trait is present in a being it overrides traits that it is dominant over. So if you got a gene for 6 fingers and a gene for 5 you get 6 because the 6 is dominant over 5. 6+6=6 6+5=6 5+5=5. Hope it was easy to understand I'm not a teacher after all.

Aaaaah, I see now. It makes a lot more sense now. Yeah, I am not a biologist, never studied it. :P

This all makes more sense now.

Considering Frank O'Conner (or Greg Bear, cant remember which) said in the 343 podcast the Forerunner trilogy will explain some of the real world discrepancies in fossile records and human genetics and such, this is REAllY interresting.

halo takes place in the future as far as we know this could all happen 500 years from now i hope it does actually

  • 12.06.2010 5:40 PM PDT

Reach is actually set in the Epsilon Eridani System. It's the closest known solar system and DOES exist. Unfortunatley, there is too much space debris to have a Reach-sized planet in safe orbit of the star (that's why there's a huge asteroid feild when you start up Reach) I'm not sure but I think that as of now we haven't discovered any stable planets orbiting the star. It is suppiosed to be a very young Solar System.

And, if this is true, and humans were originally six-fingered, does this mean that the Forerunner modified the other species to not be able to use Forerunner technology?

ex. The Forerunner selected us to carry on the Mantle, so they made the Grunt's arms unwieldy for fine motor skills, the Elites twin thumbs unable to properly use five-fingered Forerunner tech., the Jackals claws unable to do anything but scratch and grasp, and the Prophet's three-fingered hand the wrong size for activating anything Forerunner.

seventh coloumn pride

although that is true and would be very cool about the forerunners i seariously doubt that bungie planned that knowing that whole genetics thing i mean i never would have thought of it would you have
