The gaming magazine Games Master claims that Studio 343, the new developer of the Halo-series, is working on a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved.

The magazine also claims that 343 is using the same engine used in Halo: Reach will also be used in the development of the remake.
The game would come out on the 10 year anniversary of Halo: CE, which would be in November 2011. The year after that, they say the direct sequel to Halo 3 is coming out. Microsoft hasn't replied yet to these rumors.

However, Phil Spencer, vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, said that he would think about it, he wasn't sure if the consumer would really want a remake. And obviously they have a lot of work to do, but it's not impossible to put a remake in their portfolio. "If a remake of the game would really matter to the gaming community, it would probably be a good idea. But I haven't really put much though into it yet."

Remember that this is still a rumor, and you should not get your hopes up. It is unknown if the game, if it will ever be released, will be full-priced.

What do you think about this, and would you buy a remake of Halo: CE with improved graphics, greater level design and possibly a lot of new features?

If you cannot lead by example , intimidate.

I would definatly get it, even if it was bad and 343 screwed it up. But that would be pretty epic if they did a remake . Also if they did they would have to make a good enough map editor such as Halo Custom Editions was.

Impossible on 360, CE relied on external programs and seriously complex methods. There won't be a real map editor; maybe Forge.

But yes, I would definitely buy it - maybe add in some maps from PC, though. Death Island mmm.

Yes I know but just a thought. The Far Cry 2 editor wasnt bad but just wasnt polished that well. But 343 wouldnt try to encorperate that in.

...And so the hero crawled through the fissure on the surface of Tyr. There, the lone Dwarf stared into the cold, dark eyes of Soulblighter...The fiend hefted his blade over his shoulder as a flock of raven took upon his form...

A Halo CE remake would be perfect for Halo's 10 Anniversary and a great way for players to see what to expect with 343's potential with the Halo series. Though, personally I would rather have the time spent re-crafting Halo CE spent on a new Halo title all together (if a remake is confirmed).

I don't care. I really don't.

If this is happening, I personally think it will be Reach DLC, as 343i has never made a game before, only a few employees have been part of that process.
If this is DLC, then 343i can collaborate with Bungie's Reach DLC/Reach Support team to make it, without any copyright infringment or Bungie going against previous promises to their fans with Reach as their last Halo game.

That's my opinion. And yes, I would buy it.

I do not support 343 remaking CE. The game is perfect the way it is. Why try to fix what isn't broken? To make money the same they're doing with all these re issues, and we all know how those have been turning out.

I understand what you're saying, but if you really don't want to get it, it's not like Reach; there's an original and you can play that because the remake won't degrade the quality of the 2001 version. CE is still there and it still kicks as much as ass as ever.

I personally think that some things need to be left alone, and are perfect the way they are, but a polished CE would be pretty nice, but in the end you will realise you've all done it before.

Yes, please! If all they really did was amp the graphics. Left the A.I and everything else that we loved about the game the same, just polished and fixed just a few things. Instant bank, I'd buy it. Oh my can you imagine the flood on the Reach engine? It sounds like a fantastic idea and I support 100%

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Well it better be perfect, or everyone will lose faith in the Halo franchise.

  • 12.10.2010 11:11 PM PDT

Yes. It actually would be pretty nice to a remake of it.

  • 12.10.2010 11:17 PM PDT

i actualy wonder if 343 will add anything cut from th original game or add new things such as stuff from the books so there both in congression together

  • 12.10.2010 11:33 PM PDT

I probably would buy it. It would have to be great though. I think Studio 343 should concentrate on their own unique take of the UNSC and the Spartans rather than repainting over Bungie's Halo CE, while using Reach as their template.

  • 12.10.2010 11:53 PM PDT

The only thing I think CE would need in a remake would be graphics and multiplayer being added but either way I would buy it just to try it.

  • 12.11.2010 12:35 AM PDT

You know that if 343 were to do a remake on an improved graphics engine, they'd change all the gameplay too. Everything in CE was big, clunky, and slow. The gameplay went perfect with the AI and map design.

The sound the AR made and how it fired was insanely beautiful. My favorite weapon in CE. You could practically headshot grunts on Heroic in a three-shot burst. The clinking metal sound it made when it hit the enemy was also epic, haha.
