I don't know very much about physics etc, but would it be possible to build an actual magnetic accelerator? How much power would it take to launch an 8lbs shot put ball a mile or two?
As far as i can figure out you would need some very powerful electro magnets, some kind of way to cool them, some large something-erathers to amp up power to then dump into the magnets and some way to ensure you dont blow urself up.
How would one seriously build one? Any ideas?

Calculus calms my troubled mind

Idk how you would personally build one but they are designing similar weapons for the navy.

We believe that the universe is unbounded: this is not the same as infinite: the 2-D surface of a sphere, wrapped around a 3rd dimension, has a finite size, but has no end. If you start off in a given direction on the surface of a sphere, you could return to your start point without having to turn around -- you simply go all the way around. But wouldn't that mean the universe has an escape velocity like the earth?

It is extremely plausible. The Coilgun is already a primitive example of a future MAC.

too much light hides the shadows

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Dont rail guns already exist?

Yeah i googled railguns.. They all fire very small ammo, nobody ever launched a shotput ball.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

I have seen you future

Yes, they do. They are also very effective at destroying stuff since they fire a projectile at 2.4 kilometers per second, giving them a range of about 300 miles.

The only problem is that they haven't figured out a way to guide it yet.

I'm agent Nahman Jayden, eff-bee-eye.

You can buy one for $29.99!

In time, the tru7h will be revealed.

Yes it is highly possible and probably already being researched. There already are things like a MAC cannon, just in a much smaller form (railguns, etc.). There are also particle accelerators that move atoms at nearly the speed of light by using many many superconductors. If we could massively scale this up, we could essentially make a cannon capable of essentially firing anything and nearly light speed. The only problem there being money. Lots of it. And a lot of resources. But again, this is probably already being researched and developed.
