Halo: Heretic or Hero---An Elite's Story
Choose your own destiny

FanFicFactor
Forged in the Flames of Passion, go forth and represent!

I find it incredible that the Grunts' commanding officers allow them to doze off so much during the Halo games. Now, I would understand this if they were napping in the very beginning of, say, a very discrete stealth mission where no communication is available or something, but that's often not the case anyway.

Assault on the Control Room is the best example of this over-sleeping habit. Please explain to me why there are like a hundred sleeping Grunts on that level, even though it has to be evident at some point that Chief is plowing through their forces and is fighting his way to the control center. This could also just be sheer stupidity on their CO's part. Why weren't they roused awake before beng subsequently massacred?

I just don't understand. It's not like they need beauty sleep or anything, and their commanding officers, Elites or Brutes or whoever, are just plain dumb for not waking them and preparing to hold a line of defense. I literally just walked through AotCR because more than half my enemies were sleeping.

Thoughts? Other examples of their faulty alarm clocks?

Sleeping to reduce Methane intake and therefore increase the time between tank top ups? Something akin to the Basal Metabolic Rate?

Just a thought...

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

But you can say that because of these sleeping Grunts, the overall experience was alot better, than say, if the Grunts were awake.

It gave a great stealth feeling to the game. In AotCR, you could go through pretty much the whole level without shooting a bullet in the tight corridors. Things like that is what made Halo CE the legend it is and the incredible replay ability it has.

Anyways, I'm sure the Covenant werent really expecting anything to attack a major stronghold of the Covenant. I'm sure they werent expecting the Master Chief to reach so far. Maybe the adverse weather conditions played against the comms?

Well I haven't seen any novels that mention why Grunts sleep a lot, but this sounds good.

It does say in Cole Protocol that they are from a very cold planet, and that they love the warmth; it could be that which is messing up their metabolism?

Or they're just lazy :D

I am a firm believer that when bungie makes you spawn with a pistol, kill someone with a rocket launcher.

I think sleeping grunts were more like scenery than actual enemies. They added to the atmosphere of a level and made me appreciate stealth more.

Now if only more than 5 Sleeping Grunts had been in Nightfall....

In TFoR when the Spartans are flying the banshees toward the ground force it mentions a grunt who was sleeping on reconnaissance and mentioned that he was terrified of getting caught.

Maybe the sleeping grunts in game are more for gameplay than canon, like how plasma weapons are all nerfed for gameplay.

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...
