first point, the NOVA didn't destroy any of the planet it merely 'scorched' it, now there is a huge difference between scorch and destroy, the moon was absolutely tiny is another point worth noting, so the planets atmosphere was probably fried but the planet itself would be relatively un-touched.
also hit and run tactics? whats your point? its simple tactics to use your strength and your enemies weaknesses against them, i.e. the Daedalus for example is much much faster than the Autumn, so use your speed and agily against it since the Autumn is too big and ungainly to really combat a ship like that, also why in hell would you foolishly rush headlong at a ship with an enormous cannon pointing at you? thats just utter, complete stupidity, so of course you would use hit and run tactics, unless of course you want to die...?
Edit: also your failing to see the obvious, for example nuke Mount Everest with the Tsar Bomb (biggest nuke ever made, 50 megatons) and you will do absolutely sweet nothing, sure you might damage it a little bit but overall it would be fine. same thing applies to the NOVA, its not just some miracle weapon, its just a really big nuclear bomb that has the same disadvantages, put it on a planet and there is no way it would destroy the planet, let alone 'crack it in half'. the best method of using a weapon like that would be to have it burrow into the target, then explode, that would yield best possible results, imagine putting the Tsar Bomb in the middle of Mount Everest and repeating the same hypothetical experiment..?thank you! some one understands physics , a noa placed on a planets surface will make a crater but the force wont travel through the planet , now place the nova in the core of a planet , and say good bye to it
