Hey folks - From time to time we've gotten a lot of great feedback about our site but I figured hey, why not start yet another feedback thread!?

We have a small team and next to no resources but that doesn't stop us from dreaming about new cool things to add to Bungie.net.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.... Let's keep this focused:

What one or two things/features do you want to see on Bungie.net?

I'm saying one or two just to keep this manageable - pick what's most important to you. Please do not just post a list of 50 things you want to see. What do you want THE MOST?

This can be anything from new content areas (like Halo fiction/backstory information) to brand new features to improvements to whatever... Think about it and let me know what you would pick if you could only do one or two things.

thanks!

Neato!

Hmm. What would I like to see? Well of course the Search gets numero uno. For the second one I don't really have a specific upgrade, but more an idea. So here it goes.

1. Search Feature
2. More User Interaction

The second one mean not just postying and such. I mean, I know that's a lot, especially with the groups and all. But mabye a users last 10 threads, or an "online" indicator.

I'm rewriting all of my post, I shouldn’t of come in here and just blurted it out like I did.

I would definitely like to see updates to the inside Bungie page. I think it would be great to see new letters to the webmaster, the soapbox, and the Bungie comics. Pretty much, I would like to see more content from the people working at Bungie.

I also want to see 7themes cleared out soon. There are stickies for avatars and for themes submissions right on this front page. Obviously, people want to see more of those added.

shhhhhhh

Search feature.

Some more group features such as: Text color, can make up to 3 forums, etc.

Karma system, along with maybe a new forum for talking about bungie rumors, so we can put all our Halo 3 stuff there.

I'd like to see a more interactive website. Lots of Bungie.net goes without maintenance for a long time. Now, I'm not saying that anybody should go out of their way to allow Joe Bloggs to manage the forums, but I definitely think there are ways to get the community more involved with things. In fact, I just think the 7th Column main page needs to be brought back, with community interface and so on and so forth (7th Column Council ideas etc.)

Second, I think the Column needs to change. I want to see the sidebar back, a more complex database system (as before), and many of the other cool features that used to be around. More security options would be cool too, such as a public forum.

Hmm, I think I must be the only one here who definitely doesn't want to see a Karma system implemented.

What would I like to see? The Search Feature, obviously... The ability to turn the Blam Filter off for chapters is pretty high up there for me too. A Private Message outbox would be nice, as would having the current theme queue cleared. ;D

Search Feature - Forum Search? Entire site search? Both?

Karma System - What specifically about this appeals to you? The idea itself has existed in all sorts of different iterations... what are you looking to get out of it? For you, what problem would this solve?

(and moderators, you aren't helping this to be a serious ontopic discussion =0

Well for the Search, I would like it to be pretty indepth. I would like to be able to find thread/posts made on a certain date, post made by a user, threads in general, that sort of stuff. If it's going to take awhile to make it, which it has, I would like to see it be a top notch search.

The Karma system isn't very high on my list, but I see no harm in putting what I think, if it were to be made, it would do. I think that it should be very covert. There would be certain people handing out the Karma and taking away the Karma, but not everyone. I think that it should be either a select few members handing out the Karma and these members wouldn't be knows to the rest of the forum, or the mods and staff. Otherwise you'll get people who "boost" Karma. The point? Well perhaps to reward the good and punish the bad. Mabye after your Karma is xx, you would get some new avatars to choose from. Mabye you would get a caption under your name, or mabye you would get a different colored font. Mabye your name is different colored. However, this bring up a new problem of Elitism. However, if trusted people are handing out the Karma then they will only give it to those who deserve it. Meaning not the egotistical people who would only use it to degrade others. Well mabye the higher up Karma people get a Paypa... nevermind.

Did that help?

The Karma system above all- From what we've been told about it so far, it sounds awesome. A whole white board full of possible rewards for bnet members. I would love to see my karma go up and get rewarded for it. Because for now, there is no motivation for people to actually contribute to Bnet. Which is a problem. I believe the Karma system could help that.

I would like to be able to view people's signatures from their profile page(I have a thread on this idea up.

I think it would be cool to have custom avatars as a reward for the karma system. Of course, you would need a lot of good karma to be able to use one.

And I also like the PayPal idea.

I've never seen a Karma system that works. Not one. If they take the route of only allowing a certain number of people to dish out Karma then you get the problem under coverage - and I doubt mods really want to spend their time worrying about handing out Karma. If you let everyone have a say in Karma distribution then you invariably get people exploiting it, so as to make the entire system meaningless.

I guess it just seems to me that a Karma system is a bit of a White Elephant.

That, is exactly why it is not out yet. Achronos is working very very hard to prevent it from being exploited, and have it be low-maintenence.

And I've already stated my two things, but I just remembered something more important than my second suggestion:

The Fanfiction forum. There has been talk of one being made for a long time. But it hasn't come about yet. The Official Fanfic Group is working very hard to be a viable substitute, but it's no replacement for an actual forum for it.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Well, the search feature. Mainly because I loose topics, or I want to find a topic on something for fun. Oh, I would just want it for forum posts(we already have one for people and groups).

Also how about the ability for you to see all the threads you've created, like in your profile page or something. But that would probably be fixed if we get the Search feature.

Another thing I've wanted for a while is mainly a Halo thing, but how-about an official Halo information database. You don't have to have lots of stuff, just stuff like this, this, and this

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I would like a Search which allows you to effectively search the forums, like Pimp at Sea said, and an improvement of the Group Search. Currently, it only looks for chapters that begin with your search term, and this is inadaquate. If you are looking for a group about a certain topic, and if this group had the topic in its name but had The in front of it, or didn't start with that word, you would never be able to find it with the current Search.

The Karma System is my second most wanted improvement. The way I would like for it to work would be that at first, only mods and above could give out points. They would just give or subtract a point from somebody when they deem it necessary while reading the forums in their normal course of duty, there could be a button for it by people's names, it shouldn't be a big deal. Then once a user got X number of points, he/she would recieve X reward (custom avatar, private forum, being able to use colors in their post, some totally awesome that I didn't think of, whatever you guys think is good). Then once a user got Y amount of points, he/she would be able to give out Z amount of points each day/week. Then more deserving people get their deserved points, without the mods having to work harder. Limiting the amount of points non-mod users can give out would help prevent abuse. Another thing that would prevent abuse would not allowing normal users to give a point to the same person twice in a row.

Psyched summed up my feelings fairly well. Updating the Chapter Spotlight and implementing the fabled 7th Column Council would also greatly improve The 7th Column, which could use a revitalization. I would say that these things are as less important to me than the Karma System, but I would like to see them.

Fourth, dusting off 7themes and approving more themes and avatars would be great. Especially approving some more Myth avatars, there is a serious lack of those.

* An indicater to tell if someone is online, have it under their name. I heard there used to be one, just an indicater if they are online; not how many posts someone has made.

* Antoher indicater to tell what moderators are on, good if someone os spamming & flaming. Have it above the forums.

What one or two things/features do you want to see on Bungie.net?

I know you're not going to like this, but this is what I'd like to see.

The fact that we don't have a search feature or karma system isn't all that bad. We're doing without it now, why do we really need it? I don't want to worry about those things as much as I want variety and interactivity.

I haven't been here for long, but I've heard buzz of 'old times' and how they were 'so much better'. I think that' because of one sole reason. People who have power and actually have a respectable title are working with us here. I don't want you guys to spend night and day coming up with one thing and it turning out to suck when we could do a lot of little things with the tools we have right now, see what works, and improve.

I want to see this, this, this, this, and this updated. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I want more of a connection between us fans and you guys.

If you were to ask me what was the first thing I think of when you say "Optimatch Forum", I would see past all the repetitive threads and such to see what I really think is great. Lately you've been really looking at the forums. Somewhat recently, Ninja 0n Fire became really active in the forums and replied to people individually. I also saw that you guys took the halo players on these forums seriously into account when making playlist descisons and stuff. That's really great, and I wish it would happen everywhere and more often.

You'll probably skip past this post because I'm not responding to what you really wanted, but that's what I think would make this place better, so that's why I said it.

Anyway, if I had to pick something major that I wanted, I'd have to say this page. I don't know if you share this idea with me, but I was thinking that we could have that page as a news page which would hopefully accept news a lot easier than the mainpage would. That way lots of members could post what's going on in the 7th Column and such. Basically, turn that page into a news page that we can post to.

Anyway, thanks for making this thread.

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.
Phrogs eye view

The search feature would settle a lot of the gripes some people have about finding their old threads or posts, and possibly cut down on repeat topics. I think it would be nice if it was a forum search rather than an entire site search. I like the idea that some things on the site (like older news posts) should be sought out and read through rather than handed to us. It might instill a little more appreciation and patience.

Tied for second would be the karma system or a list showing the members who are logged on. The karma system would have the edge but the details are very vague at the moment. I'm just afraid that popularity will rear its ugly head if it's not somehow an automated system. Either way it will be interesting to see what you guys come up with in the end.

It's starting to look like something new is about to happen soon. :)

Oh yeah! I can't believe I forgot! I wan't the 7th Column Council more then anything.

And to whoever said the Karma will give people an incentive to be good- people shouldn't need an incentive to be good. They won't really be being good if they do it to gain something, in my opinion.

I like that idea for the Karma system. I think that, if a Karma system is implemented, that would be a good way for it to work.

I would also mainly like to see some updates to The Gallery and Bungie Soapbox.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

If there is a Karma system, I want it to be set up so members cant abuse it.

And plz make the search feature. Its been coming soon for a year.
