rewards for good members. If this goes via a karma system, than that will be it. My idea:
A promotion/caste system. All the bungie employees and mods can give out "karma" to us users. The more we get, the more stuff we recieve. 10 points (just examples here); your own avatar. 25 points, a special title, some thing like b.net veteran or something like that. 100 points; special forum for good members only. And than the most important stuff: At a certain point. A "good"members can give someone else karma. Say, at 200 karma points, you can give out ten points yourself. When you reach another number of points, you can give out another ten.

the best thing about this system: It's Troll proof. Why? Like i said it goes via a caste system. Moderators usually know who to "promote". Those members know who they can promote. This way there is a much better chance that all good members get promotion, instead of just a few. Those who act good on B.net know who's an arse and who does things right.
What if someone does act like an arse? Well than the moderators and Bungie webteam can take away karma from that person.

And oh, you shouldn't be able to see how much karma you have until you reach enough points to get a reward.

chance of this to happen: 0,0003%

More Bungie!!!!!!!!!!! This is a bungie website and community right? Than where is Bungie? I'm a regular visitor of the Bioware website and forums, and guess what. The Bioware employees actually visit the forums. Even the bloody CEO. I want to talk to Bungie people too(maybe something for a special forum maybe), not just Sketch and Achronos ( you guys are great, but i always wanted to exchange a few words with Joe Staten)

chance of this to happen: 0,000000000000000000001%

Fan art gallery: if you have ever visited Blizzard.com, than you know about the Fan art section they have. IF you ask me, that rocks! I wish we had options to share our art here and see it shine on Bungie.net (if it's good enough ofcourse). Yes, i know HBO is where you can share your artwork, but's only restricted to Halo.

Most important of all: 7TH COLUMN!!!!
It needs to be revived!!! Serious, looking at the same page for all those months isn't fun!!!!! That thing needs to be active!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-edit- darn, while typing this i saw that Ghandi came with pretty much the exact idea, sorry.

Could the PM system be expanded (as in the ability to PM more than one person at a time or your whole friends list)? Or is it purposely limited because of server resources, spaming prevention, etc, etc? If not for everyone then how about expanding the PM system for the Founder of a group? That way the founder could message his or her whole group at one time. And if your still worried about that, then limit the founders mass email postings to one an hour or a day. If it is abused the the members will just leave or the system can freeze the founders account automatically for X amount of time.

And along those same lines, change the quote button to read reply. Or just have the system automatically build the PM thread. I don't know how many times I have received PMs with one word replies. Then I have to ask, WHAT are you talking about? And NO, the subject line doesn't always give me a clue. PM etiquette is sorely lacking here. Minor annoyance.

Thanks. Some thing to think about. That's my two cents, for that it's worth.
dave

The only problem with a caste system is elitism. People get a higher rank, and are proud of it. Sooner or later, one of them is gonna rub it in the face of someone not as high as them. The result: Flame Wars abound.

Thus karma can be removed by the mods and bungie team.

I'm not exactly sold on the usability of a search function, but it wouldn't be bad if we got one. A lot of other people like it, but I wonder what it would really be used for. [joke]If you created a group search that searched the other fields like motto it would hurt my feelings. [/joke] I've been working on that feature independently. I'm not very far on it, check the sig.

The Karma system scares me a lot. I know Achronos said it wouldn't be like the RvB one, but I've never seen any other karma system. RvB's karma system seems to promote quantity over quality. Basically whoever gets the first page posts gets all of the Karma, users create threads and posts of no purpose just to play the odds that the more posts they have the more Karma, and users who post pictures of women get Karma. Some people even troll for negative mod points. I don't think that this is what a Karma system should encourage. On the other side, I believe that if any web team could pull off a successful Karma system it would be Bungie's.

Colored text should never be brought back. EVER. I don't think there is much risk of that after the great flood fad before it was removed, but I did want to let you know that a lot of people are glad it was removed.

I like the idea of new content areas. Here is why: When I first played halo which was way past the release date I noticed that it was an awesome game. I was wondering if there was another one about to come out or if another had already came out. I googled it and I found this site. When I came here I lurked around the site and pretty much read every piece of content from Bungie. I watched the Halo 2 trailer about 100 times a week. I read all of the letters to the webmaster, event he ones from people talking about Bungie sold out to Microsoft. I noticed that Bungie had a special personality to it. I went to the forum and noticed that employees of Bungie actually interacted with their fans. That is when I decided to register.

Well now I'm out of content. To me the forums are as good as it gets. There really isn't much that Bungie can do to make it better. Sure they can do stuff like add a search feature and make a more efficient database to reduce wait times, but the most important part of a forum will always be the users. There isn't much Bungie can do about that. They make more content. Bungie is an infallible God when it comes to this sort of thing. I like the idea of the background story. I've been itching for a new book for a while now. Tell me something new about Halo to pass the time between projects. Tell us what the Gravemind really is. I'm still wondering. I have settled for now that it is the reincarnation of the flower that pops out of the pipes on Mario Brothers. What does the phrase "monument to all your sins mean".

I agree with the multiple messages for group administrators. It would save a lot of time and ensure that news reaches your members as fast as possible. Possibly something like the Invite All Online Friends option in Halo 2 on X-Box Live. It would be nice. And an online indicator for groups would be nice. Or more abilities when making custom resources.

To add a little more clarity to my comment, My reasoning for this was, Most players check their progress at Bungie.net (a lot) to see how close they are to leveling up and since that is the case, they might be inclined to check their mail after checking stats. I know they should also be dropping into the group more often but players being players, they don't..

* Karma system
* PM everyone in personal group feature
* "Who's on now" feature
* Admin control over spam filter on/off in groups
* Post search feature
* Top groups feature (by activity, member count)
* Group karma system (vote 1-5 stars and leave comments about a group)
* When you send a PM, make it so you can see the whole conversation, instead of the message you sent off dissapearing from you forever.

Thanks Sketch for this post! I really wanna see this stuff, especially Karma. And especially karma for groups and to use in groups. Cheers Bungie!

There have been several occasions where I have wanted a search feature, so I could search threads by keywords.

A list of 'all the threads I have replied to' is another feature I wished bungie.net had.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Obviously the search feature and karma system are the top two, but i've also look forward to a return of the active-o-meter.

I guess it would measure News, Membership, Posts and resources..

I would like a buddy feature. Similar to Xbox Live, where you send a request to a member and if they accept you can go to buddies and see if they are online or not, and have an easy link to their stats.

* Improvements to the groups (bring back old features, such as optional public viewing of group boards and kick-ass databases).
* Optional blam filter (like before, though I would imagine this wouldn't work that well with the way the new hotness was set-up).
* An easier way to submit & accept themes/avatars (maybe some online tool?).

And most importantly:
* The 7th Column Council.

How about some kind of button that acts like an instant report thread/user/post and it instantly goes on a list that all the moderator have access to on there toolbar or something. It would just provide a link and the mods would simply have to click it would take them to the exact spot in question so they can review it. This way you don't have to pm every mod to get something looked at since you don't know who’s online.

Or if you had an indicator on the right side that said what mods were signed on that would work too I guess.

This is an idea I've been thinking about for a long time.

We need to basically have what I call a spam queue. There would be a spot on the site where we would put in the URL for a thread that is spam, and it would be added to a queue viewable by all moderators. Next to the "Welcom so-and-so" at the top of the screen would be something indicating if anything was in the queue. It would show up like a PM or the Online Friends indicator. The mod would click it, see who submitted it, click the link it creates, and take necessary action for the spam thread.

Did that make any sense at all?

Thank you.

And I forgot to add something:

When someone uses this improperly, they get blacklisted for it. Examples of this would be: Links to anywhere but bnet, links to threads that really aren't spam, links to areas of bnet that aren't threads.

How about a Fanfic Forum?

We've been talking about it for awhile, and it seems like Fanfic are popping up everywhere now, for almost a year. In fact, on 12/12/05, it'll be the first anniversery of my fanfic, which was the first one on bnet (having to do with halo2).

Right now, the closest thing we have to it is our group, The Official Fanfic Group (link in sig). We're trying to get cordially recognized by you guys here at bnet, and that would be great...but the idea of having an entire forum dedicated to fanfic might not be bad either.

At the moment, we've got 214 members in the group, and its only been up for 2 months (apporximation). To say the least, we're growing at a good steady rate. We have several things going on, like reviewing several fanfics, setting up a fanfic contest, and lots more. I know that making an entire forum for fanfic has several reprocutions, and that you guys have been thinking about it for a while, but i also think that its worth a try, at least. If it fails, we can always go back to the group.
