I don't care. I really don't.

Where's the "All Dead" one?

It'd be a horrible plot point if some lived, and Halo would become cheesy and really cliche in an entire different style from the one it was already slightly cliche in.

Knowing that the Forerunner were human leads me to conclude that some of them must have survived to reproduce and reestablish the population. They could not all have died.

shame then, because they left the galaxy to follow in the Precursors's footsteps to ascension on the Great Journey (from the Encyclopedia, the Precursor bit was from Diadect's saying "follow in their footsteps; the Journey is one all bearers of the Mantle must undertake once their time with it is done and the Mantle is past on).

I personally think this is a good way to continue and end the story, with humanity realizing its full pontential and all "moving on" per say to join all the other races who held the Mantle of Life in god-hood (I also think we'll pass the Mantle down to the Elites).

They aren't ALL dead, just a lot of them

to the guy above me, they are not humans, they are "aquatic" featured creatures with light and thin blue fur (from what I've heard of the Evolutions I story Soma the Painter)

My vote: "The forerunners committed mass suicide."

My next guess would be that they are now humans, but I doubt it.

As for hiding (whether in the shield worlds or not), 100,000 years is a long time. I would think that their population would have recovered and either the UNSC or Covenant would have seen them.

The forerunners were related to humans, that doesn't mean they were humans. Read http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=33340499
its about the relation between Precursors, flood, forerunners, and human.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

Toss up between "Mass Suicide" (as we all know), and "Few in Shield Worlds".
You never know, they might've made it. Why else would they have their Halo-bunkers scattered around the galaxy? For fun?

The flood knew about the shield worlds but the forerunners might have broken through and gotten in. thats why they might not be in them

yeah, I doubt the Onyx Sentinels couldn't hold the Flood off.

Hell, the could one-shot the Death Star if they all combined at once.

But you also have to remember that the flood absorbed the knolage of people they killed so the gravemind knew about the sentinals. The flood had also been fighting the forerunners for 300 years so they knew how to deal with sentinals. The flood also had ships they had captured from the precurser-flood war. and lots of forerunner ships. The flood also had a AI tht had been forrunner and turned by the flood. so they had some knolage on how to fight the forerunners.

Still, all it takes is for one (or more) Forerunner to get through, and lock it down behind them, closing the slipspace-bubble of the Shield World like a bunker.

I'm surprised not many people said forerunners are human, I remember 343 Guilty Spark telling Master Chief "You ARE forerunner."

Not really, he could easily clone. If you pay attention to the series the forerunners had mastered cloning and had cloned every race in the galaxy.

wrong, he is delusional, and Evolutions Vol.1 clearly states they are NOT human at all, but aquatic life forms with blue fur.

am I the only one that read the Encyclopedia?

"After the failure of their traditional military efforts to stop the spread of the Flood, the Halo Array was activated by the Forerunners in 97,448 BCE, unleashing galactic destruction. After the starved Flood died off, the planets were reseeded with the rescued life forms and the shattered remnants of the Forerunner civilization decided to leave the galaxy. Their final destination and current status remain unknown."
