Subject: "Floating" ships?

In most of the games, I see numerous ships just randomly floating in the air. For example, in reach, in the "tip of the spear" at the end you see a frigate just floating then getting owned by a laser. Not to mention the dozens of covenant corvettes, and the Supercarrier in New Mombasa in halo 2, and ODST.

Is there some mechanism onboard the ships that allows them to "float"? Or is bungie just ignoring gravity? I read the Fall of Reach a while ago and I don't remember anything relating to this.

Covenant ships have anti-gravity and Frigates have thrusters. But I do think Human Frigates just sitting there is a bit, bait-ish.

Thrusters and anti-grav tech...that's so obvious...not to be rude, but if you delve deeper, those conclusions come easily.

they were providing fire support for the ground forces.

And the UNSC does have limited anti-grav technology

They do have some anti-grav tech, though the specifics on when it was mastered are sketchy. In one book it says they made advances using covie tech, but there appeared to be at least limited anti-grav tech before first contact.

*Thinks about starting the antigravity systems on UNSC ships argument...*
*let's it go*

We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

There wasn't a Supercarrier on Earth, my god, it was an Assault Carrier, get it straight people!
