Subject: How do tha covenant afford well..everything! lol

Hey guys :)

Im a massive halo fan an have been since 11 (Now 18).

Im a massive fan of tha lore and i was wondering if there is anyone else enlightened out there who would be able to tell me if they have ever come across how tha covenant fund their huge campaigns/day to day running of their empire.

What got my wondering was after watching a few vids of Reach firefight i sorta figured that tha cost for assaulting Reach mustve cost "silly monies" in terms of lives, equipment, ships etc considering every grunt, jackal etc would have to be armored, armed an sent off into tha field.

I know that engineers would be able to shave off some of tha cost due to repair abilities but still tha initial construction/production alone of tha covenant arsenal still must have cost "silly monies"

If anyone could answer this question for me i would be most grateful :)

Kind Regards

Mega

You are assuming that the Covenant has some sort of monetary system. I have seen no evidence of this.

In tha cole protocol tha Jackals trade with humans for equipment.
That might possibly hint at some underlying monetary system.

  • 12.12.2010 10:00 AM PDT

The covenant probably don't have a monetary system and everything is driven by peoples belief in there religion.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

They don't need to buy anything. They take and use what they want from where they want.

Cave Johnson here, we're done!

PS: If you are reading this comment while imagining my voice, don't panic. That's just a side effect of the testing.

The jackals are mercenaries, and trade is a simple concept, not a monetary system.

It doesn't even matter considering they were not even going to trade at all.

This pretty much. You can't really not work to help the Covenant because you'd probably be labeled a heretic and killed. And they believe that say building ships and such are just ways of helping themselves along the Great Journey. I can't quite put it into words very well still.

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...

They use fun bucks with the grunts and play poker with elites.

But really this:

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

I wonder what will motivate their societies now that their religion is gone. If they do not have a monetary system that is.

  • 12.12.2010 11:10 AM PDT

I think that now the covenant is no more they would possibly fall back on religions they adopted before being brought into tha covenant.

The species that would find this hardest would of course be tha elites seeing as how they were the backbone of the covenant for almost all of its entirety.

I would say the elites would become like the USA and try to police tha universe (like tha USA tries to police tha world) and probably go to war against tha brutes for such treachery.

Those religions would have been suppressed for over hundreds of years (The Elites over 2500). It is doubtful that any of them survived. Also, after loosing a religion and seeing the world objectively (Learning that the Forerunner are not gods but only mortal, and seeing how faith could be fabricated so easily), a new religion taking place of the old one would be patchy at best.

I mean, let us say that the main religions of the world were undermined (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, etc); how many today would go back to Paganism?

The thing is though is that they do not have enough ships left t do so, or scientific knowledge to replace their lost and damaged technology. They relied solely on the San-Shyuum and Huragok for that.

Just now it is not looking very hopeful for any of the Covenant races.

Well possibly tha grunts get freedomz! :D

  • 12.12.2010 1:28 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

There is no monetary system within the Covenant. They go to a planet and take what they want.
Jackals, Grunts, Drones, (and I think Hunters) are all slaves.

Finding the love of my life, and moving house really screwed up my gaming orientated lifestyle.

Building upon this. Wouldn't having a monetary system in place undermine the way that the Covenant interact with one another? Client races could bartar with the Elites and Prophets negating the fact that they are under them.

Also; doesn't it say in Contact Haarvest about Merchants and the such in High Charity?

Just at the moment I read this, I though of the Ori.
Though 7 Ori ships could probably stomp the ENTIRE Covenant fleet with minimal casualties...

Hmm, in the Contact Harvest book, the Jackal Shipmistress wanted to sell a Forerunner thing on the Blackmarket so she could take a season off. So possibly a system going on there.

They do. In Contact Harvest, when Truth Mercy and Regret are appointed as the High Prophets of the Covenant, it describes 'Wealthy Unggoy traders in bejewelled harnesses'.

There is a monetary system, but I wonder if it only applies to luxuries - whilst military matters are entirely non-funded and free.
After all, nearly all forms of labour would be done by Unggoy slaves, which would strike a massive proportion of costs down. The Engineers would oversee much of it, and Sangheili military would supervise. I wonder if anything military related requires any monetary input in the Covenant. Not like they invent anything either, everything is scavenged.

my favorite movie is the halo movie....WHEN IT COMES OUT

they take the materials from other planets to build everything

  • 12.13.2010 7:18 PM PDT

Supreme Dictator, Industrial Polluter, Megalomaniac, Corrupt Politician, Underhanded Reprobate, Rainforest Ravager, Puppy Kicker, Oil Spill Coordinator, Holiday Hater, and an Insurance Salesman.

Perhaps the Covenant have perfected the system of Collectivism. Either that or deficit spending.
