"Question. Which Spartan is best?"
"That's a ridiculous question."
"False. Master Chief."
"Well, that's debatable. There are basically two schools of thought."
"Spartans shoot Sangheili. Spartans. Sangheili.....Battle Star Galactica."

Okay guys and gals, I'm going to warn you right away. This thread is about poop. And food. I know there is a huge amount of detail that goes into the canon of Halo - so much, in fact, that not many stones are left unturned. The question that I have for you all is about how Spartans manage their biological needs - food, water, and the ability to remove waste from their bodies.

At times these troops are deployed for lengthy missions. These missions require fuel - so what do they eat? Is there some sort of energy-liquid that is pumped into their bodies to increase performance?

Also, that armor looks pretty tough to get on and off. This begs the question of waste removal. How do they go to the bathroom when on missions? Do they just hold it? Is there some sort of colon-bag in Jorge's armor from Halo: Reach?

I know this topic is a little gross, but it's purely inquisitive. I am very curious to find out what you titans of knowledge know about.

Thanks!

Doc

tl;dr = Do Spartans take dumps during missions? What do they eat?

I assume that as all spartans, gen 2s and 3s go through varying degress of biological enhancement, they ahve the ability to do for long amounts of time without sleep or food.

I also assume theere is soime kind of hatch or zip on their suit for that sort of buisness.

Same way Starcraft Terran Marines deal with it: Their suits RUN on it!

But for real though, they probably have had training to keep it in.

The premise of them holding it could work, but only for so long. Maybe one thing that assists them in being able to go great lengths without making a twosie is because they are so big. Their bodies would need great amounts of energy, and might consume most of what they are eating. Little waste.

Does anyone know what they eat? Some energy gel or something?

On the part of The Package where you defend the lab you can see bags of food laying around near the sandbags. Nice detail.

I'm going to check that out tonight. Thanks for the tip!

Ah an interesting observation. IMO I believe that Spartans eat and drink like normal humans, removing the helmet to consume. In extended periods of battle, there is most likely a "Camel-Back" built into the armor to hold some amount of water.

As for disposal of waste, Spartans are notorious for not taking off their armor very much and typically needing a team of technicians and machines to do so. Therefore, the system may be similar to that of an astronaut suit, which has a department for waste. Also there may be a hatch or opening that is accessible in first person. Another key point to keep in mind is that the UNSC probably prepared for this by enhancing the digestive process through chemical augmentation to reduce waste and improve sustainability. /thread
