Ok here is how it started i first bought Halo PC last year it had crappy graphics and couldnt change texture quality...etc. Anyways i got a new Intel Graphics driver (1.4 i belive) and it made it look way better like everything like MC, grunts, elites and everthing else clolored and i could change the textures and particles to High well last week i went to Microsoft.com and looked for any updates and there was an Intel update so i updated it (1.6 i think) so i went to play Halo i get into the game and holy crap the graphics were crappy i could change texture and particles still but the ground looked like smooth low-graphic texture no details at all and worst thing of all... everyone was GRAY!! err it is really pissing me off ive reinstalled Halo, reinstalled graphic drivers nothing works. Is there anything I can do besides getting a new graphics card?

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

To put it simply: your graphics chip sucks.
It's not even supported by the game.
Try this graphics card.
That's what I have, and the game runs like a charm :)

That's shared memory, right?
That means you have less RAM because the graphics chip takes away from it.
It may have worked before, but it is still an unsuported chip.
If you want it to be fixed, then either reinstall the old driver or get a video card.

I just looked at the report again. It says that your graphics chip has 8MB memory in use at this time. That could be your problem.

well, I guess Ill share my knowledge:

when I got halo, the armor was all white, the weapons looked HORRIBLE, I couldnt change shadows, sound quality, particles etc., and I thought there was some hidden "armor color on" setting

I eventually realized I needed a video card, so I got an nvidia geforce (not sure which)
Immediatly, the change showed; colored armor, good terrain quality etc.

My pc runs xp home edition (which uses alot of virtual memory already, 256 mb is minimum specs) and most computers with xp come with the bare minimum 256 mb. I recommend getting a ram card to increase it to atleast 512mb (1 gigabyte is 1024 mb)

Anyway, best buy's "geek squad" might be helpful

use the old drivers or get an actual card, the later will take almost all the frustration away.

First thing. Microsoft drivers are not worth a dam most of the time.

Just role back the driver or reinstall the other one.It is allways best to get the drivers from the VENDOR not Microsoft.

a hard drive stores information, not process it. It is impossible for a hard drive to do graphics.

You run a video chip off of either the VRAM in the graphics card, or off your system RAM if it is an integrated card.

* Pr: ĭnʹtərnĕts: "I hear there's rumors on the uh (pause), Internets...

If you want a new video card, don't go with a cheap-o Geforce 3, get atleast a Geforce 5 card with DirectX 9 support.

(Also, you need to list the kind of video slot that you have on your motherboard :PCI, AGP 2x,4x,8x , PCI-Express 16x)

If your budget is $0.01 - $99.99 and you have an AGP Slot, I would recommend a ATI Radeon 9600 or an nVidia FX5500

If you by chance have a PCI-Express Slot, I would recommend a Geforce 6600

If your budget is $100.00 - $200.00 (Lets say $200 is the max, nice video cards always come down to this price over time)

I would recommend a Geforce 6600 GT or a slightly cheaper 6600 GT

However, you are an ATI kind of guy, (like myself) I would have to heartily recommend this, an X800 GTO With this video card, you can actually flash the BIOS and unlock 4 more pixel-pipelines, transforming it into an X800 PRO, XL, or even an X850 XT, XT PE. However, it comes at a slight price: Cooling, you need great cooling; the GTO uses a damaged R420, 430, OR 480 0.13 nanometer die, whilst the X850 uses a perfect R480 chip at 0.9 nanometers.

Frankly, about the above I am not entirely certain about, but for the most part, it's true.

So...I hope you will purchase one of these fine cards, and get to experience Halo PC for it's full.

(P.S. for a PCI slot, get an FX5700LE, it's the best one for PCI)

Lol that graphics card you showed him even sucks. Try going for something like the 6600GT, it costs baout he same price and its about 5 times better.

Here is the 6600GT. It is way better than the 9600xt, especially since that one you showed him is an all in wonder. Anyway this card is decent, and you should be able to play halo with settings on high or close to high depending on the rest of your computer

How is the all in wonder worse than the regular XT?
Also, don't get a Gefore 5 series unless it is a 5900. The rest of them suck.
The All in wonder comes with the bonus of the multimedia features, and it doesn't perform worse than the regular XT. It's the same care with multimedia features added.
If you have a higher budget($150-$200), then I do reccomend that you get the 6600GT.
I reccomended the 9600XT because it is made by ATI.

EDIT: Also, did you see the setting that I pointed out? From that report you posted the video chip memory on your chip is set to 8MB. You need to set it higher to play Halo, so try setting it higher. Halo will probably work then. The setting probably got reset when you upgraded the driver.

EDIT2: I thought that I had posted the refurbished all in wonder. That was about $100 when I saw it. They have taken it down since, but if I see it again I will post it.

Well, if he wants to do that then he can get the AIW. If he wants the basic XT card, then he can get that.
The AIW is very handy if you want to put VHS tapes on DVD, or if you want to import any other type of video.

Go to the device manager expand the Display adapters then double click the adapter and sellect the driver tab and select roleback.
If that does not work you can uninstall all display adapters and start fresh just rember where you have the good drivers at.
