This is an idea I've come up with to help improve bnet. I posted it in the feedback thread, but I thought I'd make it it's own thrad because I want to see what others think of it.

We need to basically have what I call a spam queue. There would be a spot on the site where we would put in the URL for a thread that is spam, and it would be added to a queue viewable by all moderators. Next to the "Welcom so-and-so" at the top of the screen would be something indicating if anything was in the queue. It would show up like a PM or the Online Friends indicator. The mod would click it, see who submitted it, click the link it creates, and take necessary action for the spam thread. When someone uses this improperly, they get blacklisted for it. Examples of this would be: Links to anywhere but bnet, links to threads that really aren't spam, links to areas of bnet that aren't threads.

Did any of that make sense? What do you think of it?

So you mean that someone reports spam, appers in a queue, a mod checks it & takes action?

Oh yeah, I no now what your talking about.
It might work, but maybe people who are looking for trouble will report the innocent user, just to cause a mess, & there seems to be a lot of people on bungie who would do this.

The mods could simply read the forums.

...or you could simply PM them. Good idea though.

The only problem with that is it is impossible to know exactly what mods are online. I just thought it would be faster than the email thing.

Which brings my suggestion into place, have a list of the modertaors that are on on the left side of the page.

Ah, but that has yet another problem. What happens if none are online? Spammers would instantly know. Spam attacks would immediately ensue once no mods were available.

Thats why there is so many mods, there is always one on.

Wrong. Very.

I have been on pleny of times when no mod is present. The Google talk mods thing is off, and none are online on MSN or AIM.

And you can also tell because the crap starts overloading. Its not OFTEN, but it happens enough to notice.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Not true Irish, because timezones, and the fact that the mods just hop on whenever they feel like it, there are many times when there is not a mod on. Usually somebody comes on soon, but if spammers where to know that there was no mod on at that time, it would be a window of oppurtunity. When a mod comes on he would be able to clean it up, but it would end up making more work for the mods.

I think Kilroy's idea would work fairly well, although abuse could become a problem.

-EDIT-
I should type faster.

Hm, if only there was some-sort of fast internet messaging system that all the mods had access to and can check. Oh, and this internet messaging system has to have someway for regular people be able to give them a message like thing. some sort of Bnetmods@gmail.com

Well, this could be applied if we had a Karma System. Only members with a certain Karma level could report spam. With a community as big as ours, the number of people with that level of Karma or higher would be plenty so that would stop people from reporting innocent members.

I already brought up the point Gnome, as well as others, that the mods arent ALWAYS on, meaning the google talk wouldnt work. And they may not even check the email.. I know a few (2-3) mods that dont use it at all..

So this idea is great, even if it was the mods homepage instead of the b.net homepage, they were taken to like, an uver mod page where only they were allowed and it showed all that stuff....

Kilroy,

This is a very good idea... an original. Don't see too many of them in here... hope they implement it.

Later, dave

i have one problem with the idea. People can abuse it. Bastards would report hundreds of links just to tick the mods off.

That's why I mentioned the banning thing. It would be strictly enforced. I'm talking like 2-month bans for people abusing it. Then permaban on a repeat. And obviously a permaban for a link to pr0n like in the regular forums.

Hey good idea. But there needs to be a cap on the amount of spam you can report...otherwise the mods would explode with false reportings.

And to avoid false reportings...mods answer an internal poll thats unique to the user saying if the spam report was useful or not. If yes, then thats great. If no, the user looses reporting rights next time they try.
