i think what made halo great was the music and experiance i mean the story its deep and the gameplay when i get to the bottom where you first get the worthog in assault on the control room you go through the door and you see the marines fighting the aliens and the wraith tank shooting plasma at them and you go through the game to see other marines in these little battles you really get the feeling of a battlefield with the most challenging a.i ive ever seen (on legendary) it really feels like the ai is really communicating with each other to set up these flanks where you are shooting grunts and jackals while the elite comes up from behind and kills you...heh i think thats what made halo great

That's too hard to answer. It would be a lot easier to say the part of Halo you dislike/hate. Well there is a thread around and here's the link to it. Take a look at my post to see what I don't like about Halo (there isn't a lot).

Fine detail. That was the main thing for me, attention to detail by the creators made Halo great, where it could have been mediocre.

halo changed FPS weapon philosophy by scrapping the dated doom doctrine "WE NEED BIGGER GUNS!!"..

I've thought about this a bit.I think it comes down to the simplicity of it and fine tuning the basics. Everything is very fluid. Vice city for example, when you jump and land you lose control of the character as he lands, if you are running and stop it becomes unresponsive. master chief moves exactly where you want him to as you push the joystick. There are no annoying weird problems. They took the basic things that make a game fun and polished them. And anything multiplayer is always more fun than not. The coop and the ctf, deathmatch, etc. Beating the computer can be rewarding, but definitely not as fun.

Seasoned Gamers

I've always thought that Bungie really nailed a certain level of interactivity in Halo that you don't get with other games. When you target an enemy, your reticule turns red. When you shoot an enemy, there's a reaction on the other end be it shields lighting up or bodily movement (especially with sniper headshots!). When you shoot a weapon, the controller vibration really matches the weapon type. I know all games have these features, but in Halo they're just....better.

My 2 cents.

Co-op, system link play, and it's replay value.

And you get to blow -blam!- up.

the maps and the enemies, and the required strategy rather than pure skill. the enemies were great. they were ugly and evil. they required strategy to beat. also, i liked how (in campaign) someone who could nail an elite up close with two heashots at will 100% of the time wasn't a whole lot better than someone who had strategy. i hate mechassualt because there's no strategy involved. the thing that made halo great was that it required strategy AND brute force, not just brute force.
