Subject: The intense potential of the Halo Universe. Not explored.

Something that I rarely felt when playing campaign on all the Halo games was the epic sense of battle between two huge factions. It always seemed like me, myself, and I on some mission with little to no support.

Even in Halo ODST, there was an abhorrent lack of team action and it turned once again into a solo fight. The most disappointing part was that i was expecting battles and action like in this video

Halo Reach, even with Noble team, also had many missions where you where either alone as Noble Six, or with one or two members of Noble Team, not a huge battle.

Don't get me wrong, i loved the games but I wish there was huge epic action.

Think before you post

Yeah i definitly agree, Halo 3 did have some pretty close to the scale i wanted, but they still coulda gone bigger, i think a good example for me would be like in star wars 2 when theres that epic massive battle on geonosis, thats the kinda scale id love, when you have aerial battle in the sky, tanks supported by platoons of infantry, light vehicles roaming the battlefield, artillery units in the background causing explosions left and right, and even massive frigates orbiting the field...

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Next time you play Tip of the Spear, look over the Cliff beyond the first AA Gun. THAT'S what I thought that mission would be like.

"You get what you put into it."

When Legendary is too mainstream, you have Heroic. When you're the leader of the church of MLGeezus, have Epic in your username, and can't write 'About Me's' to save your life, what do you get?

This guy. And now, an side note: Most things I post contain lethal doses of sarcasm, so be warned, and try not to take me seriously.

Finally, a message to Bungie trolls everywhere.

This, and other battles like that intro movie scene in Halo Wars, bigger versions of the Ark in Halo 3, and maybe whatever battle happened at the Lone Wolf mission (Reach).

they increased the amount of ai they could have but they failed at implementing it

The problem with having battles like the one in the ODST is that it would have to be heavily scripted. I think that it is very hard to implement intense battles without having a tank blow to the left of you, or having the Scarab targeting the two Hornets above. The problem is that you destroy the campaign gameplay that Halo is renown for.

It would take an immense engine to be able to script and playout an actual battle you are right, but I am just saying what I hoped it would be like.

Bungie planned on making an actual battle with the vehicles in the Tip of the Spear cutscene. Just thinking of an open battlefield with Warthogs, Tanks, and Aircraft duking it out sounds awesome.

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien.
Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar.
tenn' Ambar-metta!

I was expecting space battles between UNSC and Covenant Warships and you in a longsword in the middle taking down the Seraphs. I'm kind of dissapointed in that area with Bungie.

They made this claim several times befor Reach came out but I never witnessed it in the game.

I was hoping to take part in that as well, then have you infiltrating a covie ship and using against several others... oh well... time to write a novella.

I was hoping Halo Reach had THIS (skip to 8 minutes).

Didn't Bungie say they it was going to have up to 60 AI at once

Yea that gameplay seemed awesome! WHY DID THEY CUT IT

  • 12.15.2010 11:21 AM PDT

meteor

Yeah, i was wishing for the epics from halo 3 be exploited and personified with reaches engines.... really dissapointing. That's why the Ark and the Covenant are 2 of the best levels ever. EVER

  • 12.15.2010 11:45 AM PDT

its never going to be fully realised, because too many people are too happy with the current trend of over-simplistic, reflex shooters. the last truely great FPS game i played was crysis on the PC, it was epic, the way halo is MEANT to be epic, shame really that one of the most in-depth universes around is so, i dunno, let down maybe? by customers and the game designers, i dunno.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

They had FF and huge TotS background battles planned for Halo 3, but they cut it out.

  • 12.15.2010 1:27 PM PDT

shame they cut so much of the background stuff out, halo deserves more grandeur.

  • 12.15.2010 1:45 PM PDT

Jeeze that pisses me off, why didnt they freaking implement that crap? I wouldve loved to play what i saw in that video, hunter boarding? That was just epic, and the 'global battle' clip was sheer beauty, with the longsword flying past your face and the scarab and the explosions, god that makes me feel like i missed out on so much

Because bungie are idiots. Plain and simple.

I AM ARAGORN!!!

i'd love a squad-type gameplay, where you can tell your men to swing round on the left flank. just saying.

Yeah, Bungie basically -blam!- lied when they said up to 40 AI. Everyone thought it would be enemies you'd interact with, but turns out it was all for scenery. Well played, Bungie, well -blam!- played.
