When I got Halo CE it took me less than a day to get through the game, there was no getting lost on any level, on AOTCR you just follow the arrows on the floor or ceiling. Even in the level 343 Guilty Spark, that took a while to get through, especially when you met the flood, going back to the elevator that didn't go up. I wasn't angry that I had gone back for nothing, it added to the thrill, excitement - especially on legendary when you are fighting for survival.
The flood melee distance is fine if you LOOK at what is hanging off their arm. If you can't see it's a whip, so of course they'll be able to attack from far away. The only time this is ever a problem is in the Library. Even in there the monitor will tell you if you are going in the wrong direction.
Map repeating aside it's part of the story that you backtrack in Two Betrayals. If you pay close attention in TB you can see stuff like tunnels blocked where they once had been open, doors busted, all kinds of stuff the covenant are throwing not at YOU but at the flood.
Shifting down to a post I saw lower on, someone mentioning the motion tracker in Reach. If you are referring to a multiplayer game, or if in campaign you or someone else has active camo, it always, always makes it look like you're completely surrounded even if you aren't when it's active.
By the way, I use a 8 year old PC for Halo with garbage speakers AND the sound isn't blasted. No tv to play it on, no great sound, hell this monitor is fuzzy but that doesn't hinder me while playing.
The motion tracker in CE works well enough - it shows you when there are enemies around. In levels like Truth and R... where you get to a hanger and enemies seem to spawn from the very doorway you just entered, it's not like you're wiping the entire ship clean of covenant. Not every door is open to you, so it should be expected that if you get trapped for a time in a hanger that covy's will come out of every door nearby even if your motion tracker was clear before.
As a last thought before I finish this up, when you play a new game do you ACTUALLY expect to get through NO PROBLEM the first time? Do you know how many times I died on my first run trying to save every marine on AOTCR?!?!?! Or on that damn staircase on the first level? It's kind of expected that when you try something new it isn't going to be easy. If it is easy to complete then what the hell is the point of even playing it? When I think back the first time I played Halo CE it was on Normal, which took me about 12 hours. After replaying it 6 more times, I upped the anti to Heroic only once, then Legendary every time after that. Maybe if you were playing it on Legendary for the first time, then you have a reason for sucking, but otherwise no. When I play FPS games I throw caution to the wind. Screw baby steps, just charge at them! Melee an Elite to death! One thing I was always disappointed with was that I couldn't melee Hunters to death like in CE. Occasionally I do melee a hunter in Reach but it doesn't do much. Sometimes if the hunter is close to dying the melee hit will finish it off but it is rare. The point is it's not as hard as you make it out to be. And if it is, then just remember: practice makes perfect.
